Map display when following a course

I went out for the first time with the 5X today on a hike and all good except the map display has one third of the screen hidden by a data field with a chequered flag and the distance remaining to finish the course.

Is there any way to turn this off as I have that data on another screen and I would much prefer to use the whole screen for the map. Seems very odd to add nice detailed colour maps and then hide one third of them with superfluous data.
  • Do you know if it is possible for the 5X to just use the breadcrumb trail navigation (instead of map display) which you got on the 3 or I expect what is still on the 5/5S?

I think the bread-crumb trail is overlayed on top of a map layer. It is possible to disable all the map layers - in which case you will have a blank background. Not sure that there are any advantages apart from a less cluttered screen.
  • You could probably go into the map settings and disable all the maps, although I am a little unsure why you would want to.

If you are Navigating and not running then your activity is "navigate" so go to navigate settings and not run settings.

If you are "Navigating" when "Trail Running" does this mean you need to choose "Trail Running", then go to the Menu > Navigation > Courses to follow a course logged against the "Trail Running" category.

Confused why you would use the "Navigate" option, wouldn't most people want it tracked against a Walk, Hike, Run, Trail Run?

Agreed, I wouldn't but the watch does give you option The Fenix 3 asks you to choose if you are doing a walk, hike, run etc after you navigate but the F5 doesn't seem to.
  • Select an App first like Run or Hike. Long press UP button, scroll to navigate, then select your course.
