fenix 5X frozen > Garmin triangle

Hello,

got my 5X yesterday evening. Was very exited. Set it up, connected to mobile app, connected to Express, installed all updates and went to bed. When I woke up this morning the 5X was only showing the Garmin triangle. I can turn it of, but turning it on will just show the triangle again, not more. Tried to hard reset like the fenix 3 light/down/back, but it seems not to work. Connecting to USB doesn't work ether. Always just the triangle.
Is there a different method to hard reset the 5X then with the 3? Does anyone else experience the same?

Thanks for the support!

Sebi
  • Has anyone tried the new firmware?

I'm running 2.90 now. No issues with uploaded workouts or maps. The only thing that won't happen are Strava segments showing when I'm doing a structured workout I've created. Not sure if this is on purpose from Garmin or an overbite.

Other than that it seems to be running fine

That's good for you, Running Beast! I guess you don't have any foreign characters in your strava segments then? I've turned my segments off for the time being - don't miss them really. Just hope the watch will run flawlessly soon!
  • Strava Segemnts still crash my fenix

Segemnts now work, but the ones with special characters (in German: ä, ö, ü) are still broken.
  • Chill out! I am sure they will fix it, but I am also sure they are working on a whole heap of other things as well. You bought in a new watch very early and some bugs are sure to be found as more people test different options. If you feel like you are a beta tester then you can always return the watch and wait until it's more mature. Else, have a bit of patience and I'm sure they will get round to fixing it soon

    Thanks for the advice! ;-)

This just bugs me because I have been in contact with the beta team about this from the beginning and because this is one of the features I was most looking forward to.

Anyways, what I described in my last post is no longer true as it seems the update hadn't installed on the watch (just showed in Express) and most segments now work. Those that contain special characters (in German: ä, ö, ü) are still broken.

    Cheers!

I could agree if Garmin be a startup company or Fenix 5x cost around 100 USD - but here we pay for the "quality" and we do not receive it!

Regarding Segments - it's not first device either watch that supports Stava segments so why they did not used their knowledge to implement this properly?
  • Activating popular segments still crashes the watch

Turns out it's not fixed afterall *sigh*

The only way it works is to deactivate popular segments sync on Strava. Activating it causes a crash on sync... Whohoo, now I get to spent half an hour setting my watch up again (yes, I do backups, but given the limitations of backing up, getting everything to how it was before still takes ages).

I'm trying to chill, but it's not like we are in Woodstock or as if Garmin was my friend... If I pay 750 bucks for a device as a customer I expect the main features to just work. This is not some minor quirk and has cost me hours of precious lifetime and one useless month of Strava Premium already :-(

Really hope this gets fixed very soon!

    Same problem

Same problem here. Every once in a while, when I sync (mostly when connected via USB to my MacBook) the Garmin freezes completely. Four times I had to do a factory reset, because nothing worked anymore. Even a replacement watch didn't work out.
Now I see, that around 50 segments and a TMP file are "stuck" in the NewFiles folder on the Garmin. I guess that's the reason why. Whether I sync via USB or via the Connect app, the segments stay there. I will now try to remove them manually and disable the segments feature until next update.

    To the admins:
I attached the segments to this post. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!
  • If I synchronize segments with Czech national character is frozen. If english than it is ok

I can confirm that. In German the characters ä, ö, ü in a segments name cause the freeze.

A current workaround is to activate Strava Segments in GC, but deleting all the segments with special characters manually from the sync list you get in GC before connecting the watch. The other segments will then sync just fine.

The dev team is aware of this issue.

That also explains why I had this issue. For now I disabled segments.

Regarding your workaround: If I enable segments, Garmin/Strava automatically syncs popular segments besides my favorites. Is there a way to prevent syncing popular segments and only sync the ones I marked?
