fenix 5X frozen > Garmin triangle

Hello,

got my 5X yesterday evening. Was very exited. Set it up, connected to mobile app, connected to Express, installed all updates and went to bed. When I woke up this morning the 5X was only showing the Garmin triangle. I can turn it of, but turning it on will just show the triangle again, not more. Tried to hard reset like the fenix 3 light/down/back, but it seems not to work. Connecting to USB doesn't work ether. Always just the triangle.
Is there a different method to hard reset the 5X then with the 3? Does anyone else experience the same?

  • Ugh! Understood and not something we are happy to hear.

    What software version are you currently running on your 5X? By sync we assume you mean once you've removed the device from the charge clip and the watch gives you some indication a sync is occurring? We want to verify you don't mean a sync via Garmin Express or via Garmin Express Mobile.

    My software version is: 2.40 (e2564d1)
    GPS: 4.20
    Display: 2.10
    WiFi: 2.30
    CIQ: 2.2.3
    BLE/ANT: 2.70

    It freezes while transfering. This happens no matter if I sync via Bluetooth, WiFi or Garmin Express. When I turn it off via long start button press it boots frozen on the triangle. Happens every single time I try to sync Strava segments. Deletet all of them to see, if their number was the problem, but happens when just trying to sync 1 aswell.

    We've had a good amount of interaction with Strava Segments well before now and not seen the issue you describe; however, we've also not interacted with every single Strava Segment available. Therefore, seeing any of your segments might let us know what we've missed. At this moment I don't see how this is a device issue that couldn't impact others...which is why we would like to try and reproduce as soon as possible.

    just wanted to let everyone know, that Garmin support was very responsive and told me that they already had a fix for the GPX transfer freeze, which will be included in the next update.

    Unfortunately they weren't ablbe to reproduce or fix the issue with syncing Strava Live Segments yet. That's why I opened up a new thread as this seems to be a different issue:

  • Non of the F3 reset methods work for me. Mine got stuck when I transferred birdseye data via basecamp. Any other ideas?

    Tried
    1. Turning it off and on
    2. Plugging it in to the laptop (not recognised) - actually it is recognised whilst holding the start button and usb drivers are installed (device manager identifies it correctly) but no drive appears in windows.
    It seems to be recognised as an external GPS but not as a mass storage device.
    3. Hold lap button whilst powering on
    4. Power on and hold start and back then release start on first beep and back on second beep (I could do all this but it was still powered on with the triangle)
    5 Hold start back and down and power on release start on first beep and other two on second beep (again I could do all this but it made no difference)

    And its still displaying a flickering triangle???

    Update: Just spoke to Garmin and it has to be returned

    We are curious to know how it is you were able to load BirdsEye imagery to your Fenix 5X? Through the course of validating your scenario, we realized that BirdsEye had not been 'turned on' via our website. What that means is there should have been no way for you to unlock or even associate BirdsEye with your Fenix 5X to download images. Can you more fully explain the method you used to download BirdsEye imagery to your Fenix 5X? Did you maybe download a 'demo' image from BaseCamp?

    Any details you left out that may further assist us in better understanding your situation will be helpful.

    Basecamp linked me to a £22 subscription which i paid for and activated on the 5x. I was then able to download areas up to about 230mb and transfer them to the device. This all seemed to be working and I had transferred around 3 such files before i disconnected. Then i got the blue triangle. The 5x was clearly shown as a compatible device on the webpage. Maybe you can track it from the order number 7909389 which has been refunded.
  • My F5 is downloading Strava segments just fine and tested them on a run today. Alll worked fine.
