Extra silicone QuickFit watch band with sapphire models

It looks like some of the the sapphire models come with an extra band. But Garmin doesn't specify which type/color. Does anyone know if it's a duplicate of the one that comes with the watch, or is it a different color, for example.
  • I run early mornings. The yellow band is just one more way to increase visibility, which I imagine is what Garmin was going for by including it. Makes sense.

    +1
Although I wouldn't wear it, other than in an activity. Pink included (breast cancer support).

Okay, I have been convinced. I didn't think I would wear the yellow band but for running in the dark it makes sense, especially now that the bands are quickly interchangeble. So now I'm leaning a bit toward the sapphire.

I really thought you guys were being facetious about the yellow increasing night time visibility. I don't care how bright the yellow is. I just don't see how a non reflective watch band can make you more than maybe the slightest bit more visible to drivers or other runners at night.

    Nobody's claiming it's a beacon.

Beacon, no. But there were several posts in a row all agreeing how it will make a difference. To me it sounds like potential buyers trying to justify paying the extra $100 for the sapphire. Which is your choice, and if you want the sapphire get it! But if you think the color of your watch band has any impact on your night time visibility, I think you're fooling yourself. From behind or even from the side a driver isn't likely to even see your band. In winter it may be mostly covered by a sleeve. And just overall a watch band is a pretty small target for a driver to have a chance to see.

    Eh. OK.

Probably reading too much into everything. It's an extra band, which I need anyway, because I'd like to have the black for everyday use. The alternate is a bright color, which is better for activity. Period. Whether it's 1% or 100%, and it's very likely why Garmin choose it. Not because it shines bright, but probably just because people prefer brighter colors. Look at the nike sport watch from Apple. Same color scheme, just cuz. It's what people accurate with sport.

It's not just the sapphire glass though... My understanding was the only way to get wifi was to get the sapphire version. Seems a weird product differentiation to me but that's the way it is.

Thanks for that - missed it when i read the review. Oddly Garmin doesn't list those details.

I was considering the sapphire since you also get an additional band, but honestly I can't imagine wearing the yellow band ever. So the value proposition isn't that good for me.

Actually it does if you under the "In the Box" tab on the Fenix 5 page. Disappointed that the 5X nonmetal doesn't come with a band though.

Agreed, even a bright yellow extra band would be nice with the 5X.

I had a 620 with wifi and it often forgot the credentials for my home network, so I relief on just the BlueTooth. I currently have a vivoactive HR without wifi, and can't say I miss it. With Garmin's QuickFit the pins stay in place, so the NATO type bands should work great. I've picked up a few decent quality low cost for other watches on Clockwork Synergy in the past.
