Topomaps for Fenix 5X

According to Garmin spec. : "...GPS watch with full-color TOPO U.S. mapping, routable cycling maps and other outdoor navigation features"

Does it mean that colour topo-maps will be available for USA only?

How about EU and other countries?
Is it possible to use routable OpenStreetMap for this model?

    It is showing Epix. Probably 5 x also.
  • I see it as the perfect opportunity to make a contribution to the open source maps in Norway:) Open source maps brought to you by Alex :)

    I most certainly will :)

    Meanwhile, I hope Garmin realizes that the idea of non-transferrable maps on a watch belongs back in 2000's when companies where still terrified by the big and scary internet.
  • They were much better about it at one point. With the first maps I bought from Garmin (in 2008, I think), City Navigator North America, I was able to activate them on up to three devices (and I did) and put them on a computer. The US TOPO 24k Northeast I bought for my Edge 800 were completely unlocked, and I've used them on successive Garmin devices that I've bought. So I was shocked when I recently checked at buy.garmin.com and discovered that the 24k TOPO's can now be activated only on a single device. Weird, because maps as good or better than Garmin's are now easily available for free.

It's weird they've gotten more restrictive as it has become much easier to find free maps that are just as good and even better in some ways.

    For routable maps for western Canada, I would use this link, right? It lists the Fenix 5x as compatible.
  • I can see "map" as an activity, and it show street maps. But how do I view topo maps? I don't see any way to switch the map type, and no "topo" activity. Thanks

    Hold up button to go to menu->
    scroll down to settings->
    activities & apps->
    map->
    map settings->
    map->
    configure maps->
    Now choose your maps shown via slider. Topos should be down on the list. 100k is included with watch. Other topos are extra, either via purchase via Garmin or imported free via openstreet.
  • Thanks. I followed those steps and topo 100k was one of the maps listed, with a green mark to the right. All the maps have the green mark, so I guess they are all enabled. But in the Map activity I still see only the street map. I get the feeling I'm missing something really obvious here.

    Turning the watch off and back on solved this. It works normally now, and I can turn maps layers on and off.

    Mapping topo 24 and adding free topo 24k ?

    Exactly! Since the day I read F5x will have maps I'm heavily mapping my area in OSM. Now, almost no unmapped forest road, track, path etc. around me. :) I also mapped about 31 thousand buildings, hundreds of POIs etc. but not sure all these are supported by watch or maps.

    I wonder if it's possible to show all OSM objects in the map? For example, not only roads but also buildings, even power lines! :D

    Hi,
    I am new to topo and will rwecieve a 5x soon.
    Are there simple instuctions (dare I say...a video)?
    On how to

    a. Do OSM mapping in local area

    b. How one adds the free osm 24k maps to the 5x

    Tried a search...but due to some reason the forum gives me no love :(
