The new fenix 5X

Just thought I'd get in first...

Sorry.
  • I run with a Fenix 3 with Titanium band. It weights 124 gram. No problem for me.
  • Idea Not dead yet

I was also scratching my head at this.
It is true that I do max 42K runs so no need for charge on the go... but why deviate from a great design (the cradle)?
If someone develops a OEM un-official cradle solution for this watch...they will make a nice sum.

the primary question is still: Can it actually recharge during use. That is key. if yes. then we can figure out how to get creative, since it obviously cannot be on your wrist. but maybe around shoulder strap on a hydration pack. around the short part of the neck of a handhelf bottle. In your handle even. F3 could be almost fully charged in less than 1 hour. 45mins of should if I recall. As long as if can recharge. I dont mind the hour inconvenience of holding, are stuffing the F5 into the upper pocket of my UD SJ 2.0 vest
  • I run with the Fenix 3 with the steel strap, indeed I rarely ever take it off. The watch *will* feel very very heavy for a short while until you get used to it and then the weight just disappears and feels like nothing. I barely notice I have it on nowadays.

However, if I swap wrists and wear it on my right, which is my dominant arm, it feels very heavy and unwieldy again. I'm planning on getting a metal strapped 5X when they are eventually released.

I am going to return my F3HR and get my money back and just wait for the 5x.

Only problem is that it will be a long wait and also expencive... price for the 5x here is aprox $940  (NOK 7999,00)

But I am really looking forward to it :)

I have owned the F3HR for about 5 days now and have done some runs with it. As mentioned above I don't feel the watch on my hand anymore. I had the FR 235 and that was a awful watch as the HR sensor digged in my hand. This is not a problem on the F3. Now on the 5x the HR sensor is buildt in the case so that won't be a issue anymore :)

At 44seconds in the below video it looks like you can use it while plugged in

    My question.
Fenix 5x supports 24h gps like this:

    or

    20h like this:

    *in best battery save configuration.

    same here
  • Please new altimeter-barometer hardware

I'm curious as to whether Garmin has changed up the hardware on the altimeter-barometer sensors.
Mine (under warranty) continue to provide erroneous readings. Any one have inside intel?

I returned two Fenix 3 HR's because of this problem. I will not buy a new one unless they fix this issue. But if they do, I'll be first in line to buy the Fenix 5X.

Between those who returned F3's due to gps issues and those that returned them due to alti-baro issues, I bet there's a number of us (I returned multiple F3's) that would love to go back to the Fenix line, but not until Garmin can improve accuracy. I intend to pre-order with REI asap and compare against my current watch (Ambit 3 Peak).

    Expectations low, hopes high :-)
  • Does anyone know if the F5 has USB mass storage access just as the F3, and if the data is stored in the same way (FIT activity and monitor files)? It seems obvious that this would not change, but as these days most people sync via Express or GCM, it would not totally surprise me if direct USB access to the data would no longer be possible.
