Fenix 5 Plus Series - 14.00 Release Candidate

Hello Fenix 5/5S/5X Plus users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

This software version is our next Public Release Candidate. This means that this software will become a public update, as long as we do not identify any critical bugs in this version. We would appreciate any feedback on v14.00. (Whether you install 14.00 now or wait for the official release in a few days, the v14.00 "release candidate" or "public release update" software will be identical.)

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

14.00 Change Log Notes:

  • Fixed an issue where the device could crash when editing CIQ data field/watchface settings.
  • Fixed an issue where long music titles would not display correctly on the playlist screen.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to outdoor[email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.

  • What is the sensor alert? I have 2 Tempes, a HRM Run and a footpod. I never had that alert during an activity, only at the beginning. O.k. one exception is when I do some workout at home and I come in reach of the Tempe either on my bike or on my shoes in the basement. This is obviously not a bug.

  • Floors count seems to have been altered, i walked 20 flight of stairs today, usually registers as 18-22, but after update i only get 10,

it works but it seems it has been Halfed in sensetivity?

this is the same flight of stairs i walk every day.

I'm certainly not saying what you're seeing isn't happening, but I haven't seen either of these issues - all is working normally for me.

The alerts were ".. connected" or "GPS available", just as the beginning of an activity, but then at random intervals during the activity. Often it's the RD Pod or the Tempe, sometimes a cadence sensor or foot pod. There rarely is any missing data, and the same sensors worked OK with a Forerunner 935, so I assumed it was the Fenix 5 Plus reporting too eagerly about a temporarily lost and reconnected sensor. Haven't seen these alerts since 14.00.. but if it is just me.. probably just a coincidence.

  • Hi ,

This would have not been the 14.00 beta update. You are correct that beta software is never automatically delivered to customers' watches. Additionally, system software is sent as a "GUPDATE.GCD" file which will be saved to the Garmin folder - so since this software was in your RemoteSW folder, we know that it wasn't the system software update.

Our "peripheral" software (ANT/BT/BLE, GPS, Sensor Hub, etc.) updates are sent to the RemoteSW folder. So the update file you deleted was one of these. It was mostly likely the v6.11 ANT/BT/BLE software update, which we started releasing as a public update on the 18th and is now Live:  https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14326

Although you deleted the update file from your watch, GCM and Express will both try to send it to you again until it is installed.

In short, everything you have seen is expected.

    Thanks,
    Mel S

  • is there any diff between release candidate and final ver?

I did not see that  ver 14 it was released and install release candidate

  • Upgraded to 14.0 last week, along with an update to the latest maps.

The distance-doubling bug on routing is fixed, as documented.

The only issue I had was that the maps were incredible slow to load.  First time going into the map view took >30 seconds for the map to display, and then as I moved it was very slow to load new sections of map.  I'm not sure if this was due to the new maps, the new software, or the combination of both...

  • Hi docnetau

See my answer there : https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-5-plus-series/246206/extremely-sluggish-map-operations-with-europe-2020-20/1173675#1173675

In short, I think you are experiencing the same thing I do with TopoActive 2020.20. Try to simply connect you watch to your computer for a couple of minutes, and unplug it to force a refresh of the watch content and see if it works better now (but do not reboot the watch).

Installing firmware 14.00 simply triggered a reboot but the culprit seems to be TopoActive Europe 2020.20

  • Indeed.. I found out it was BLE/ANT driver. First  official 14.00 was automatically installed. Then I let install “the something” next time the install message popped up and during the installation a message was shown that BLE/ANT drivers are updated.

  • again, how can I update from 14 beta to 14 final version?
can anybody send me the gcn file for final version?
