This is my 2nd Fenix 5S Plus- unfortunately due to charging issues. Ever since I’ve had this one the caloric calculation is WAY off!! My husband also has a Fenix 6S and his works great! We did a hike today to an elevation of 14,295 feet. Neither watch recorded the elevation correctly, but my watch said I burned 387 calories and his said 1400 +!!

I don’t have patience for this and have had  it to be honest and going back to Apple.

  • I find this FW is now eating the battery and the bt connection is very flaky.

  • Fenix 5 Plus:

    - Battery drain

    - Ant+ connection instable (hm-run and bike sensor)

Since installing this revision, the battery is now depleting within 2-3 days after a full charge.

  • In order to get the right elevation - you have to calibrate your watch.. This is quite normal for most watches regardless of type/brand.

Calories has been an issue for a long time when it comes to hiking simply because the watch is too "loose" on most peoples writst. I think the HRM strap is really needed if correct accuracy is needed.

  • This is said every single time an upgrade is released! In most cases it is due to two issues

    - You have to power off the watch completely. (Hold the light button for a few seconds and turn off the watch).

    - Switch back to one of the Garmin watch-faces and see if it does not fix the battery consumption (In most cases it does). Wait for an update of the watch-face so it matches with the released firmware.

I still have a battery drain issue on my 5s plus  after this upgrade. It is possible to stop it by turning the watch briefly off after syncin the activity but that is not a way to deal with it. Something needs to be done about it on a software level, so I beg Garmin to do it. This is really annoying! Especially since I alredy have charging  issues for some tine now, despite clearing the pins. This watch is too expensive to have all these problems! I am really angry about it and I was a biggest fan :(

  • I have done several rides, runs, and gym sessions with 13.0. The watch was connected to several ANT+ Sensors (HRM run, 2 Tempes, one of them with almost empty battery, Footpod) with and without headphones.
I do not see unsusual battery drain and the connection to sensors and headphone works without any issues or dropouts. I track between 6 and 9 hours or sports a week and I charge it around every 5 days (not completely empty).

I can only agree to the points mentioned before (check watchfaces, those battery monitoring apps also consume battery…) and I recommend to use a charger with a high capacity.

  • I use my watch like an crazy, 10-15 trainingsessions a week (5-6 running. 2-3 swimming and 3-5 biking and a bit of hiking) - Usually a marathon every week where I use Spotify (Powerbeats "4" + Heartrate belt and I do not have any issues.

I am running the lastest firmware 13.00 - with updated ANT+ and BT but with at standard watchface and when In sync my trainingsessions I am using my Iphone.

Så I am pretty sure that unless your watch is faulty you have to do two things.

    1) Install the latest firmware - Turn OFF the device once and turn it on

    2) Switch to a garmin watchface

    3) Use the watch at verify that everything is ok..

Hi, thank you for yr answer but I already did all of it, except playing with ANT+. Does not help. And besides the problems with the charging pin, which is separate from this topic, it is impossible that it is due to  a faulty watch. The battery drain started recently and CAN be stopped by reseting the watch after the activity. That reduces the drain from 70% daily to 10 % daily (as usual). So it is recent software or something.
