Set up a workout with the appropriate steps.
If you are talking about a Garmin Coach plan then from my experience they sometimes have you press lap after the warmup when ready to start the reps. Once the reps start, the watch takes cares of the rest and you do not need to press it again. It will automatically change to the next step after the 5 min and 30 secs steps.
Picture as example. You only need to press lap after the warmup when you are ready to start.
