Fenix 5 Plus Series - 9.74 Public Beta

Update (11/27/19 10:30 am)

We have identified a bug in activity recording that is generating files with extremely inaccurate values. We are removing this beta to prevent further problems. Our next beta version will resolve this issue.

Hello Fenix 5/5S/5X Plus users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.74 Change Log Notes:

  • Added support for ClimbPro 'Climb Detection' setting in Cycling. (Bike > Activity Settings > ClimbPro > Climb Detection) This allows the customer to customize grade 'sensitivity' when identifying climbs.
  • Improved ClimbPro for cycling by adding category coloring to the ascent graph, which better depicts the difficult portions of the climb. This will also be available when reviewing the elevation plot for a course.
  • Added support for uploading golf scorecard and ephemeris files over Wi-Fi.
  • Fixed an issue where the device could register a speed spike during Ski activities.
  • Fixed an issue where long activity names could be truncated in some languages after upload.
  • Fixed an issue with proximity pairing a dual mode sensor.
  • Brought in improvements for CIQ media apps.
  • Made other code improvements and bug fixes.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to [email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.

@: Read again... i did not say anything about map issues before.

I am glad that your watch works perfectly - in contrast to many others (so why are you here at all?)

Your writing reminds me on best practice lobbying - sorry :)

  • You’re right, it’s not unreasonable for betas to be less than perfect.

However, Garmin have a history of betas introducing such widespread, easily replicated and significant bugs that would be troubling should they have made it into even an alpha or development release.

Secondly, Garmin’s release notes are so pathetically poor that the only way to find out if a bug you have reported might have been fixed is to install whatever the latest version of the software is, whether beta or stable. Personally, I have 6 open tickets with Garmin so I installed 9.74 to see if any of them had been fixed. None of them had been, but this random distance bug was introduced so that was doubly irritating. In my case it wasn’t that distance was calculated incorrectly, it was a bloody strength workout so shouldn’t have been calculated at all!

  • The irony is if your Garmin connect account is linked to Strava, the activity in Strava reflects the correct values where the Connect activity reflects "extremely inaccurate values".
