Fenix 5 Plus Series - 9.74 Public Beta

Update (11/27/19 10:30 am)

We have identified a bug in activity recording that is generating files with extremely inaccurate values. We are removing this beta to prevent further problems. Our next beta version will resolve this issue.

Hello Fenix 5/5S/5X Plus users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.74 Change Log Notes:

  • Added support for ClimbPro 'Climb Detection' setting in Cycling. (Bike > Activity Settings > ClimbPro > Climb Detection) This allows the customer to customize grade 'sensitivity' when identifying climbs.
  • Improved ClimbPro for cycling by adding category coloring to the ascent graph, which better depicts the difficult portions of the climb. This will also be available when reviewing the elevation plot for a course.
  • Added support for uploading golf scorecard and ephemeris files over Wi-Fi.
  • Fixed an issue where the device could register a speed spike during Ski activities.
  • Fixed an issue where long activity names could be truncated in some languages after upload.
  • Fixed an issue with proximity pairing a dual mode sensor.
  • Brought in improvements for CIQ media apps.
  • Made other code improvements and bug fixes.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to [email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.

  • I think the point that most people complain about is not being able to roll back to the latest beta after a bug is found. But that is my opinion.

  • Ok. For me the whole point of buying a watch for + - $ 1000, is to get something that work as promised.

  • Jano22222 I suggest you stop insulting other forum users and try to add something useful to the community.

  • What ? If that is insulting other members, i gave my opinion on beeing a betatester , which i not like. My point was that a watch to a lot of money should work « out of the box». If you or others is happy with the situasion, good for you. Seems like it’s quiet some people in here who not are.

  • This is a BETA software, just stay with the stable version to avoid these problems.

ilsalgo: Good joke - "Garmin" and "stable" in the same sentence. Slight smile

For me, i don't see really that much of a difference between the beta and the official release versions.

They are simply both full of never ending bugs.

Since i realized, that maps on a watch are not even nearly that useful as initially thought, i definately will not buy a Garmin product anymore but head over to SUUNTU or other alternatives.

  • Possible you have missed the point, but this BETA software come because the «stable» version is absolut not that, also stable.

if it was, ok, no need for Beta. Comprende ?

  • And to think that I always believed that if beta versions were development versions and could contain serious bugs.

The 9.10 have only big problem of treadmill calibration.

  • It all depends on the use, I could not do without maps and music.

  • Suunto, Polar, Amazefit, Fitbit etc. do not have issues with maps, because they don't offer them!

Maps were the reason why I upgraded from a Fenix 3 (with absolut stable software). Track navigation works perfectly on my F5+ and the quality of the maps in the regions I used them is very good, every small path in the woods is there. I combined them with the contour-lines from opentopomaps, which works great.
Activity tracking, music (MP3) and GPS-accuracy - everything fine.

Maybe your watch is broken and you should contact Garmin!
