Bug Report - Treadmill Calibration issues

2 huge issues with treadmill calibration.

1 - Calibration is off by about 2x on treadmill. I run consistently outside and inside, and inside on the treadmill I’ve had to “Calibrate and Save” 20+ times usually on runs that are 3+ miles. Nothing seems to affect the calibration. It’s always off. I’ve tried resetting several times and no luck. Outside calibration is accurate but treadmill is way off.

2 - Calibrate and Save feature itself is messed up. See the picture attached. When I try to calibrate, the watch won’t let me calibrate to between .00 and .30 of a mile. I ran a 5k on the treadmill (and watch said I ran 6.54 miles, which was off by a bit more than 2x), and when I went to calibrate and save, I could only select 3.30-3.99 miles, not 3.12 for a 5k.

Whats the fix?

  • That reminds me - I did notice that if I leave the run tracking program (i.e. go back to the watch face) and then return to it, the calibrate and save option does not appear when I finish the treadmill run. I don't do that normally and it was a long time ago when I noticed that, so maybe it works correctly now. But maybe that is the reason Agrazi is having the problem? In any case, the factory reset process really wasn't that bad. It was easier than reinstalling Windows 10!

  • Yeah that was my experience also...i've wanted to calibrate several time since then but it just has Save.  or I can discard it of course...

  • That is, the first time, maybe twice, that I recorded a treadmill run I had the Calibrate + Save option.  Ever since, it is not available toggling through the options.  I can Save it, Look at it, or Discard it basically.  I spent a heckuva long time getting this watch set up the way I wanted it....it has a lot of settings!  A factory reset is a sucky option.   This is on the Fenix 5 Plus

  • Since COVID, I have not done any treadmill runs. Only outside. My only complaint is the loss of my Garmin pay setup, which I have not bothered to set up again because I don't care about it anymore. (Well maybe just a little. It is cool to pay with your watch.) Using my credit card is fine for me. Anyway, I suggest you bite the bullet and do a factory reset. it is painful, but really the only way to fix software error issues.

  • It's interesting  that nobody who claims that the calibration is missing, posts a screenshot to show how the menu looks like.

Some mention a footpod. Is it possible that the settings or the pod in general influence the calibration? I set mine on distance "indoor" not "always" and I never wear the footpod in the gym.

  • You tipically take a screenshot of something that you can see, in this case the menu entry is missing. There is nothing to screenshot

  • Do you wear a foot pod on all your treadmill runs? I know this is an old thread but thought I'd reply in case anyone comes across this later..but I think with foot pod detected, that calibrate option disappears. That was the case with mine. I assume because it assumes the foot pod will be accurate for figuring distance. I stopped using foot pod and then was able to calibrate on my next treadmill run..so, hopefully gives folk something to try.

  • Thank you! So my assumption that the foot pod influences the calibration was right. Interestingly it took 2 years until somebody tried it and confirmed the solution to the problem.Thinking

  • I guess so...or potentially they tried that and/or different things or figured it out long ago and just didn't bother posting here about it.  Or they moved on to another device and didn't care any longer. Sometimes the circuit just doesn't get closed that way. Anyway, if it helps anyone who still uses a foot pod and still encounter this, then awesome.

i just came across this older thread after researching numerous bugs with my new 955! Hopefully those get hammered out also. Upside down

  • Treadmill calibration has been working for me for more than a year now. I think it was a bug that was fixed with one of the software updates pushed to my watch. I don't have a foot pod.
