2-3% per hour on the new 9.0 version in smartwatch mode

NO additional watchfaces
NO workouts
NO music

Bad result for the last update =(

  • @Jano22222: If i look at the company ratings and comments of employees and the open jobs at Garmin as well as how they ignore customers and generally their behaviour, then it's more likely no really talented programmer is so stupid to choose Garmin as his employer.

Or simply put... sh-t in, sh-t out :)

Thanks for the post and tried out the steps (reset / fresh install of firmware) as well. Unfortunately, it did not help.

Really wondering about the root cause as for some here an exchange of the hardware did not change the situation.

  • Unfortunately, it did not help.

Of course it didn't. I don't understand that approach. I am in software development for decades now and I know that what is missing a lot is the proper bug feedback from the end user. I would love to get the scan of your device internal memory in the advent of the problem if I was committed into solving software issues. If someone (Garmin) tells you to purge a device then they don't give a s**t and they are not interested in correcting anything in their software (with respect to the problem reported). It is just for a hope that device will start working with a fresh start (they tested fresh devices as minimum for sure) but the problem will repeat itself sooner or later (or it will not go away but valuable data will be lost). The problem will repeat, the end user will use his/her device similar way as before so the problem will reproduce eventually.

Sorry for the off topic but I am fed up with "reset the device" advices.

  •  you don't have to follow my advice.  And by the way, I am not in any way connected with Garmin (except for owning their devices)

The procedures described in my post linked above helped me and some other users with different problems, so I share this knowledge as  I don't think that wrting a post just full of complaints could in any way help others?

I own a fenix 5+ connected with iPhone on iOS 13 and I don't have battery issues (0,38% /h with BT connected all the time and a custom watchface) or phone /accesories connection issues, ... and I took my time to check it both on 9.1 and beta firmwares...

So I am not so sure that problems described on this thread are software related  and I would attack Garmin support to force them to replace the watch

Oh.. and just to clarify... as I use Garmin watches since original fenix, I had to contact Garmin Support in Europe couple times before.  Each time they asked me to send data from /Garmin directory first, and every time they replaced the watch if there was no other way to solve the problem.  Maybe their support works differently in other parts of the world.

Happy using or get a Suunto :)

  • To «force» Garmin to do something. Good luck with that. And Suunto is not a bad watch. The point with Garmin is that they put in so much *** in they’r watches, that really nobody can expect everything to work. So use your 0.38% /hour watch, be happy with that, but control if the brain is connected before open the mouth. What you do is talking down the Suunto. Should be no need for that when you own a Garmin yourself, been a while now since Garmin was state of the art.

I think there is no need to get personal here. At the end of the day everyone tries to help by sharing their experience.

What is important is that Garmin should start to properly check the quality of their software so that there is more consistency in the experience with their product. That's the least what people spending 1000 USD for a watch can expect.

  • that really nobody can expect everything to work

    Really? I do.

Of course you do. Me too. We payed a lot of money for a watch which isn't doing what they promised. Nothing more disappointing like Garmin. And they don't care. They got their money.

  • I am fed up with "reset the device" advices.

But as a software developer you'll also know that is standard advice, and has been and still is with virtually any computer based device. I still hate Windows BTW!

It provides a start point for troubleshooting. A better start point is of course a full factory reset and removal of all CIQ add-ons to see if the problem is the device software itself or something added. Garmin are not mind readers. They do not know what has been added or removed - here you'll also acknowledge as a SW developer that even removal of an add-on does not guarantee removal of all that had been added - so the permutations are almost infinite.
