Garmin will be better! Update older Fenix!

Garmin has a terrible business policy when it comes to updating watch software … Glances widget, facepro, certainly most of the new firstbeat features can also be part of older fenixes … Eg. Apple updates (functionally not only bugs) Macbook (or Watch) for 4 years or more after, Garmin does not want to add new features its not one version below, which is simply a flop that it should not forgive. Even from the price policy, where the price far exceeds the competition. Likewise, he has an app store where most of them are unusable … let the new features (widgets) charge and put them in the shop … But this is too much. Watches are the best, but the approach to the customer has much better all competition.

  • I'm sure that they will not update the old Fenix 5 plus Series watches.

I bought such an old piece of Hardware end of march this year (and supported the development of FR245, 945 and F6)  and now you can see what they are doing with these customers. Nothing they have the money. And we have a watch which is not as good as a FR245 with music. They have f.....ed us. I'm really pi...ed of !

  • They've just launched F5 updates, the F5+ series has just had firmware updates....

The F3 HR had an update May this year.

  • And besides - The F5+ (and in my case F5x+) we've bought still does everything we bought it for. Adding updates may not be simple in part due to hardware changes.

  • My F5+ actually does more than it did when I bought it, as Spotify wasn't added until a few months after.

  • I completely understand Garmin business policy.

However, If I buy new iPhone, I pay premium price and get premium support. New features are available to older iPhones if hardware permits. On other side we pay premium price for Fenix and we don't get new software features. We get only some minor features. My F5+ is 8 months old and now it is obsolete even hardware is capable to run most of new F6/945 features. Most likely the F5+ is my last Garmin and I will look for something else in future with better update policy.

  • One of these topics again. Garmin NEVER promises that they’ll update and/or support your watch for “x” time. As was mentioned here by AJ, some of those features are also hardware related.

If you like the features of the F6 (like I do), then buy it. I flipped my 5+ and bought the F6 because of the features and hardware and am not expecting features to be backported.

The only model that I may expect it to be done is the MARQ series because of the price point.

  • Also I think we need to consider that even if the F5+ model is only a little more than one year old, there's actually a kind of "generation shift" hardware wise between the FR935/F5/F5+ and the FR945/F6/MARQ with i.e. new GPS chipset and new generation of OHR sensor.

Therefore I would understand if the FR945 and MARQ would get all the new upgrades (and they should!) and not the F5+. They'll have to draw the line somewhere.

Along with the hardware changes the FirstBeat features might also present an issue if they tried to bring them to the 5+. These features are licensed by Garmin and while this is just speculation on my part it's likely it would cost them extra in licensing fees to bring these features to older units. If that's the case Garmin may not be willing to pay that cost.

  • my f5+ does not what i paid for ! Even with the new GPS release pace is bad bad bad. Intervalltraining or pace based training is impossible. Topo maps are not displayed since Version 6.x. Battery drain is high. Was very well with beta 8.03 and now with 8.40 is bad again. So the watch does in a lot of points not what i paid 5 month ago.
