Does not play music during the activity.

I have a doubt about the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus: a week ago I updated the clock and since then it has stopped the music when starting any activity (running or walking), with the headset still connected and the music playing, but there is no sound. I formatted to factory settings and the same thing goes on: is playing music on the phone normally and when starting a running (or walking) activity, the sound disappears and I hear the phone disconnecting ... I tried with the Jaybird Run XT headphones , Jaybird Tarah Pro, Hyphen and one from Mee Audio. When trying to walk or run with only the watch and the phone, when starting the activity and then the music, it works for about 40 sec and stops. You can't even maintain the connection with my Iphone Xs.
My question is whether this problem is a hardware or software bug.

  • I am using a Fenix 5s plus with software v14.00, working fine with aftershokz titanium headphones during activity, I am playing music dowoaded to the watch from my amazon playlist , are you trying to listen to music from your phone or music that you have downloaded to the watch ?

If you are not trying to listen to music that has been directly dowoaded to your watch that could be the issue although I am not 100% on how this works as I only listen to music that has been dowoaded i.e I don't need my phone with me , hope you manage to sort

  • This is not the F6 forum.

songlate is a 3rd party app, right?

Then it's obviously an issue of the app and you should find a solution there and contact the developer.

  • i tried also playing music directly from music stored on the watch, same result. tried also removing the songlate app, same result...

  • As already mentioned, this is not the F6 forum and on my F5+ it works.

  • I have exactly the same problem with fenix 5S Plus: I can connect to my earphones Jabra Elite 65t and listen music from Spotify in the watch but as soon as I start an activity, music stops playing. It is even more annoying that it happens also if I try to open Spotify on my phone as the earphones disconnect from the mobile when I start the activity in the watch. I also noticed that the same happens when the watch shows the widget for wrist heart monitor. It seems like the watch recognizes the headsets as heart rate monitor. So weird. Does anyone have a solution?

  • The only thing that worked for me is that I have a headset with start/stop button, then when watch stops playing, I wait for a min it synch its bluetooth status etc. (it discovers it stopped), then I press start on the headset end it starts playing. Sometimes I need to press play again on the watch (very annoying, but it works).

  • If issue is only occurring when starting an activity, as the OP states in the subject, I'm guessing this might be related to this issue where the headphones are detected by the watch as a footpod sensor. Seems to be most common with the Jabra headphones, but could happen with any headphones that the Garmin might see as a sensor. See threads and posts marked as answer below...

  • I had a similar issue with SW 14.+, did the following and now music works fine for me (Garmin Fenix 5 Plus) - backed up everything that was possible, then performed factory reset, removed every .img file from the GARMIN folder - restarted - uploaded Maps through Garmin Express - restored data, settings and now I can enjoy music during the training again
