Open water function doesn't work

Sometimes it gets stuck cause it loses the GPS signal but then comes back, is yours completely stuck? Have you tried first connecting to a satellite (Green GPS signal) and then starting your swim? 

Thx for the reply. I've performed a bunch of different tests.

One instance, starting it from the shore with the green GPS on. Then swimming out past the breakers to the first marker and taking a right. The watch only recorded the distance to the marker and stopped. I swam for about 45 minutes after that, unrecorded. 

Then I decided to try the pool mode in the ocean and it worked well so I would start at the shore and swim 400-500m out and then stop pool mode and start another separate open water tracker and when I got back to shore it read that I went 0 distant.

I've tried to the use open water function about six times now and it either gets stuck or doesn't recorded any information. 

What is peculiar is the pool function works perfectly? The problem is, I bought the watch to track my ocean swims

A mi me pasaba lo mismo, la solución fue:

1_acceder al reloj desde Android File Transfer

2_borrar todos los archivos que me permite el reloj (mapas incluidos)

3_ restaurar el reloj

4_conectarlo a Garmin Espress y volver a instalar los mapas y el resto de archivos

Desde entonces mis actividades en aguas abiertas funcionan perfectamente, incluso ha mejorado notablemente la precisión en trail running entre los árboles.

Just to make sure: If you breaststroke it won't work since the watch is submerged all the time. Front crawl is usually as good as it gets. I get reasonable accurate tracks during open water front crawl swims.
