Navigation does not work due to not enough memory

I am using the Fenix 5 Plus mainly for running activities, including the music player feature (spotify). When I try to use the navigation feature, it says not enough memory is available to perform navigation. Does anyone know how much memory should be free on the watch to be able to use the navigation feature?

  • Don't know, but mine has about 2.3GB left, and it works ok.  Why not remove some tracks and see when it starts working.

  • Add me as a me too on this

Today I traveled to London and tried to navigate to/from my meeting about ai mile from Waterloo station. Initially I was getting 'Route calculation error' trying to route to the office. I rebooted and it worked.

However navigating back to the station it just wouldn't work, not even after rebooting several times or clearing all my activities.

This feature used to work fine 6 months ago on my last trip but it is now completely broken

  • Here is a useful article for you to use to remove some of your past activities off your device:

My navigation is also not working but I have 7 gb plus of available space on a Fenix 5 plus.

I can't even connect to Satellites, do you by any chance face the same?

    Best of luck!

  • Shouldn't this be a built in feature to auto purge activities based on how old they are? That is a pretty bad user experience to require users to manually delete the files.

I’ll give that a try and keep you posted, although I feel it should go automatically. Is there any guideline on the amount of memory you need to have free?

  • It certainly has been on most of the watches I've looked at in the past but I haven't checked for the 5+. Granted it's not usually a problem I have as I've always manually moved my activities after a week or two. However, I'm not sure this is the problem with the navigation issues.

  • Thanks for the response but as I stated in my previous entry I cleared the activities and I have plenty of free memory, I had a satelite fix. The only things that changed since it last worked in that area are firmware and map updates provided by Garmin connect. Also maps are still slightly slower than they were many months ago.

  • I have the same issue and sometimes does not longer respond during my training. I have to restart it again and start a new training.

    I did already

    - Complete factory reset

    - Deleted all maps and deletable files + Downloaded all maps again via express software

    - upgrade to beta version 8.02

    - downgrade to stable version 7.6 (including factory reset)

    - upgrade again to version 8.02 (including factory reset)

Problems is again there (sometimes it take 1-2 days). I created a garmin case but only received the initial mail back but no answer from garmin support, no phone call.

  • I have the 5S Plus (v7.60) and I'm experiencing the same issue with "not enough memory". I am listening to music (Spotify) while running...

This seems like a RAM issue to me... Or is the device swapping to it's persistent storage?
