Sorry to hijack this thread, but has anyone has comparison between this 2018.20 topoactive and some other osm topo maps?
Are garmin topoactive 2018-20 routeable? (road and trail)?

TopoActive 2018-20 is based on OpenStreetMap data from somewhere before April 2018. And yes, it's routable but doesn't support Active Routing.

Basically, any other OSM-based map you can download is on a much more recent data version and I've yet to find one that isn't routable.

Just bought my Fenix 5 Plus - super happy so far.

On first day, instantly tried updating everything so I started with latest and greatest.
Was immediatly greeted with multiple map updates, of which one was TopoActive Europe 2018.20
Downloaded and installed. And right after it was done.. it said: Map Update Avaialable. TopoActive Europe 2018.20

I've already re-installed it once. I've turned my watch off and on again. Disconnected and reconnected it at every stage. Still get the prompt.

Space doesn't seem to be an issue (got more space left than what it needs, even with the current map installed).

    Anyone having this issue?

    Thanks!ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1472361.png
  • What software is that and how did you manage to get south america coverage? Mine (US specs) dont have them and i live here :D.
  • Hi,
    I'm having difficulties updating...

Did you find a solution to this?
I’m facing the same issue using Garmin Express on a MacBook.

Garmin Express, on an HP laptop with Win10 installed. My Fenix 5 Plus came with those maps - purchased an EU version via amazon.it (living in NL).

Just came back from a holiday and did another sync. After letting it 're-download and install', updated, unplugged it, let it sit for a moment, plugged it in and waited for syncing, it did not prompt that the same map was available again.

Perhaps there was a small update on Garmin's end? Not sure.
  • Thanks for the tip Myst , that's actually what I found out eventually too. After trying to install 4-5 times I gave up and unplugged. When I tried again after some hours, Express said everything was up to date. Tried to select re-install maps which seems to run the same process as the initial update, and it also failed approximately at the same point in the installation.

Since then I have done a couple of hikes using maps and navigation. In the map settings on the watch it says 2018.20 and they seems to work fine.
However, I wonder if it was a false error message at the end of the installation - or if the map installation could be incomplete? Does anyone know if there's a way to check that?
  • Anyone know how I can install this onto my device via GE on macOS, device isn't recognised?

Exit GE completly, also in menü. Connect watch and then restart GE. Works for me.
