I enjoyed the Performance Condition data field on my Fenix 5X quite a bit. On my 5X Plus I still get the popup notification shortly after starting an activity, but for the life of me, I cannot find the data field for it to add it permanently to a screen. Any ideas? Did they remove it? I can't find any info that says it has been removed.
Happy to help you get this reported, but I should warn you that pop up you are seeing while using the device for indoor cycling will be removed since pop up is showing up as mistakenly.
To get this reported, please contact the Product Support teams so they can get some extra information from you on how you are using it and also the files off your device for testing.
So by your logic, the Bike activity can display Perf Condition because it has GPS for speed? What if you're using a Garmin hub speed sensor? This makes no sense to me that GPS is REQUIRED. Plenty of Ant+ compatible smart trainers broadcast speed as well as power.
Garmin-Heath, this simply doesn't make logical sense. Are you talking on behalf of those Garmin employees who actually know how this works, or are you merely guessing?
If speed, not power, is the source of Performance Condition and VO2Max, then why do we need a power meter on a road bike to get VO2Max?
The obvious answer is: Because the relationship between speed and heart rate on a bike is very unpredictable due to wind, hills and rolling resistance. But the relationship between power and heart rate is on the other hand very predictable and can be used for calculating Performance Condition and VO2Max.
So discarding good power data because there is no reliable speed recorded simply shows a lack of understanding of the physics behind this.
Thank you both for calling me out on this. Yes, I am incorrect and provided incorrect data. The cause of that is not important but I wanted to say that I am sorry.
Yes, there is no reason this data field is not available for Bike Indoor.
I have reported this to the people that need to know personally, and shame and embarrassment over my mistake will cause me to keep an eye on it.
