Garmin Pay - Known retailers

Has anyone see a list of retailers known to accept Garmin Pay?

I just upgraded to a 5x+ from a 5x and one of the features I was most excited about was Garmin Pay. During a run I stopped into a 7-11 (where I have used NFC payments in the past on my phone) and was surprised that the terminal reported “App not supported”

I remember seeing Starbucks in some marketing material, so I tested it and it worked great. Has the community created a list of known working payment terminals/retailers?

Failed:
1. Local 7-11
2. Home Depot

Worked:
1. Starbucks

Like others have said, in the UK if a retailer accepts contactless then Garmin Pay has been accepted. What I can't get my head around why would this be different in the US? Its contactless technology, Dont get it
  • Yes, looks like it’s different to each country (or region?)
Switzerland seems to accept it everywhere- if contactless Payment is available...
just was on the top of a mountain (schilthorn) is Switzerland yesterday after a race and had no money with me...
payment a double espresso worked wit my watch fine and saved me :-)

maybe we should here start do do a list of countries where garminpay works everywhere...

will be in Austria next week... can tell you then if it works there fine too...

So far every contactless payment terminal I have tried in Australia has worked. Places like petrol stations, pubs, ski hire place, chemists, local pool & gym, restaurants, supermarkets and even the vending drink machine at work all accepted payments. Shame about the US though. I'll be there for a holiday at the end of the year and was hoping to leave the wallet in the hotel room.

The United States is really far behind in this area... Our Debit and Credit cards have only recently required chips, some payment terminals are still magnetic swipe only! Contactless payments is like a foreign concept to some cashiers, Even where my watch has worked (Or NFC with my phone) I get this look of wonder from the person behind the counter like I am from the future. My testing is in California, arguably it will be much better than many other areas of the United States...

That is equally valid for Germany - if the retailer accepts (and has the proper terminal to do so) contactless payment; you can use Garmin Pay as well. As Floyd0071 wrote above, cashiers still look at you like you're an alien.

Continue to not be surprised the US is way behind in this area. Ironically my business credit card was stolen yesterday because we still use magstripe readers. Huge pain to updates all my vendors when the new card comes.

You are comparing countries the size of Texas to the whole United States. With a country this size, change in a system takes many, many years! Let alone different states within the country. I have a hard enough time finding Apple Pay compatible terminals. This will not happen any time soon. Too costly.

This does not make total sense. Yes I agree it will take literally forever for these changes to make it to parts of the US, like Alabama and North Dakota, I am not even sure they have credit cards yet... Others have mentioned support is spotty in more rural areas of Germany for example, so I am not sure the size of the US has anything to do with this, I am not talking about the holistic support of contactless payments in the US

But in other parts of the United States we are leading technical innovation along with Europe, like California, NYC, and recently Las Vegas and Denver (Huge tech communities now). I live in Southern California, arguably a more forward area of the country than most of fly over country and am surprised by the lack of support. In fact we have tons of support for Android Pay and Apple Pay yet Garmin Pay does not work at many of these locations as identified by the tracking spreadsheet I have started to put together.

  • Can the people in the UK confirm Garmin Pay is actually working? I didn’t think any banks accepted it yet!?!
  • I set up an account with Starling bank to get Garmin Pay in UK. I’ve actually been impressed how easy setting up the account was and it also has the side benefit of being one of the few bank accounts that don’t charge for foreign transactions or foreign cash withdrawals on their debit card (or contactless with Garmin Pay). The list in GCM shows Santander as supporting Garmin Pay in UK, so they are the only high street bank so far. It took nearly 2 years from launch for Apple Pay to be supported by Lloyds bank (Barclays were quicker), so it may be a while before more/all of the main players pick up Garmin Pay too.
