Garmin Pay - Known retailers

Has anyone see a list of retailers known to accept Garmin Pay?

I just upgraded to a 5x+ from a 5x and one of the features I was most excited about was Garmin Pay. During a run I stopped into a 7-11 (where I have used NFC payments in the past on my phone) and was surprised that the terminal reported “App not supported”

I remember seeing Starbucks in some marketing material, so I tested it and it worked great. Has the community created a list of known working payment terminals/retailers?

Failed:
1. Local 7-11
2. Home Depot

Worked:
1. Starbucks
  • In the US, it's a bit hit and miss. (I'll sometimes go some place to see if it works!). Walgreens, McDonald's Pei Wei, not Kroger or the local convenience stores, and many others...

Supporting ApplePay won't do it, as it's a different thing

In Germany IT's possible to pay even at Aldi. The procedure together with vimPay works without problems. Here in the woods\outback of Germany (near Gummersbach) I'm a kind of Alien doing this!

Maybe I will start to put together a spreadsheet on Google Docs and share it here so the community can add/edit.... I was hoping Garmin already had a doc.

  • In UK, as long as the retailer has the tech to accept contactless payment, I haven’t found anywhere where Garmin Pay won’t work yet. (I’ve found it most useful for buying drinks at the Pub :))
  • Yes UK everywhere including a guy selling burgers from a van, don't use cash ever , ever, ever.. .I did put a extra glass layer on my watch as have tapped it so often now on devices to pay

Wow, must be nice!! We have all kinds of different payment processors here and they all have their own deals with Credit card companies, Banks and payment processors like Google, Apple and Garmin. It's very spotty right now in the US.

  • Actually I did have a tap n pay issue in some Franchisee McDonald's in the UK, this was issue for all tap payment devices including phones, and being curious as it was unusual, I called Amex as only an Amex issue, and McDonald's to be told the issue was tied down to Amex cards not added as an option in the rollout to franchisees tap hardware for non tap card devices, as contractually they need to request that payment company, Amex, accepted. Kindof weird as the card still accepted if you used actual Amex card to tap.. . Ho hum, I guess the rollout team learnt a lesson as can't remember it still being an issue, and not garmin pay issue as they don't have Amex to see problem or not. .
  • In Switzerland it works everywhere you use contactless (at least as fair as i tested it. I use GarminPay when ever i'm on the road training or on an Event (including Ironman Event Store in Switzerland, Food Store on the Events, Bakery, Snack Automate (Selecta), Restaurants, etc.)

What i think is that the fails does not relate to GarminPay it self, it might more relate to the Credit Card you use ...

Seems to be different here in the US based on payment terminal and payment processor. For example 7-11 and Home Depot I use NFC payments all the time with my phone "Android Pay" yet Garmin pay won't work with the same card configured. Cool to hear Switzerland payments works like the UK, aside from what fin.pimlico reported about MCD and Amex issues.
