Distance won't display in default watch faces data fields

Hi, I have a fenix 5 plus, and when I customise the standard watch faces to include dispance (the little running man) it only ever displays 0.0 miles. However if I select a custom watchface from the ConnectIQ site, they work fine, as does the actual display of disance from the steps widget. It just won't display in the standard fenix 5 plus watch face data fields.

I have stride length set etc and have tried updating to latest firmware etc but nothing seems to make any difference. I did have a previous identical watch that I returned, and it worked OK on that as I took photos of the watch faces before I returned it, so I know it should work.

Am I missing something? Does anyone else have this problem or have I got a faulty watch that I need to exchange whilst I can?

I have the standard digital watch face, and there is no choice in any data fields for distance. Which face are you using?

I'm using the analogue ones. This is the picture of the watch I had before, that I sent back for another reason. The one I have now just always displays 0.0mi in the top circleciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1380937.jpg

As you can see from the pictures of this watch, the two standard analogue screens show distance as 0.0mi, but the third party watch face and the distance graph correctly shows 447 yardsciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1380953.jpg

OK, I think I've answered my own question. I just went for a 2 mile run and now the watch face 'running man' shows 2 miles, whilst the other faces and distance indicators show 2.3 miles - the run plus any tracker steps so it looks like the 'running man' distance value is quitre liiterally running distance as opposed to tracker stepped distance. It seems a bit of a dumb idea to me, but at least I think I know whats going on now!

The running man icon is just your last activity, not distance for the day. standard watch faces only apparently have 'steps' option, not distance. SO ANNOYING.
