Move iq

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if my settings are wrong, but I'm a bit disappointed in the MOVE IQ on the PLUS model.
I do a lot of activity during the day - physical activity - and my Fenix 5 used to pick this up as active (intensity) minutes.
The PLUS however hasn't picked anything up in 3 days.
Looking at the Manual it states:

When your movements match familiar exercise patterns, the Move IQ feature automatically detects the event and displays it in your timeline. The Move IQ events show activity type and duration, but they do not appear in your activities list or newsfeed.

The Move IQ feature can automatically start a timed activity for walking and running using time thresholds you set in the Garmin ConnectTm Mobile app. These activities are added to your activities list.

Anyone offer any help? Have they made move IQ susceptible to certain activity only?
Or does anyone know where I set these "TIME THRESHOLDS" in the Garmin App?

Cheers
  • Have you checked that MoveIQ is turned on?

Intensity minutes have nothing to do with move iq. They are completely independent. So which one doesn't work? Move IQ or intensity minutes?

OK, so I may be getting confused.... well, clearly I am.

I assumed that Move IQ was something that recognised that you were doing an activity, and would log it as such either as an actual activity in your GCA (Bike Ride if it thought you were cycling, WALKING if it sensed you'd walked for a long time, CARDIO if it thought you were working out) AND it added this to your Active Minutes.

I only assumed this as when I spent half an hour loading and off loading boxes from one pallet to another, my Active Minutes would increase on the Fenix 5, although it didn't log it as an activity... but as I said, my active minutes haven't moved since Monday morning - its stuck on 14 minutes.

So maybe its the ACTIVE MINUTES that is faulty, and not the MOVE IQ??
  • Intensity minutes - when not registering an activity - are triggered by elevated heart rate. This is totally independent of any actual activity you might be doing - either started manually or automatically by move iq. Your heart rate has to exceed certain level for more than 10 minutes in order for intensity minutes to start accumulating. If your heart rate monitor is not working properly or you have your heart rate parameters (like resting heart rate and hr zones) set incorrectly, then this might cause issues with intensity minutes.

You're opening comment is EXACTLY what I was trying to say.... apologies for not being clear.

So yes, I want my Intensity minutes to record any non standard activity (Biking, Running, Swimming etc... ) which is what my Fenix 5 did - and did well.
I'm certainly doing more than 10 minutes of the exercise (moving boxes etc) and my heart is getting up to 120-140 doing so....
Just checked my Zones, and I#m using the 50% - 90% calculation with a max of 180, so I'm definitely hitting Zone 3 - 4 and thought that would register the minutes.

I think maybe I'm going to reset the watch to FD, Delete and Re-install the App and start afresh with the watch in its Raw State and see what happens....
This, the Battery Life, Poor Step Counting will be why it goes back!!

    Hi,

I'm returning to the first post, where the manual states " using time thresholds you set in the Garmin ConnectTm Mobile app. ". I 've been looking where to set those time parameters but could not find the place.

    Any help would be welcome,

    Didier
