How can I get more detailed topo maps?

Thanks...it seems frikart is not active since 2012 though....judging by the blog posts...is there a way to tell when the maps were last updated?

Any update on the BaseCamp issue? from the change log on the forum I couldn't tell if it was fixed or not?

Which fix are you referring to? If you mean the problems with 4.7 then no change.

For contours, get either the OpenTopoMap (has a separate contour layer), or - if you live in Iran, the Alps, Germany, West Africa or Nepal, get the Kleineisel Map. And there's the German equivalent of the Frikart, the Freizeitkarte that also has contour lines and maps for many European countries.

Very good maps for Europe are also [1]. You can download the whole package for a country here [2]. Just scroll down to see how to install them (it's very easy, you just have to copy the map file into the /garmin folder on your watch). Then in the map selection on your watch you can enable the map.
They're also constantly updated (last update 20.11.18). I use them quiet extensively, and even the smallest of trails is marked in the map. I can really recommend them (they also have contour lines).

No, they are refreshed from the OSM source very frequently. Rev 22.11.2018 now available.
