Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model

Hey everyone, we at Garmin are still looking into this but since I am starting to see a few new faces in here, I wanted to post this FAQ again. Features that Affect Battery Life on Outdoor Wearable

Also, after working with a few of you one on one, I would like to ask how many of you are using a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party watch face or if you are using a default watch face that came on the fenix? If you are using a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party watch face, could you please try a default one over the weekend to see if you see any difference in your battery life.
If you do or do not see a difference, please let me know in this thread.

No third party watch faces here. The after activity drain is much improved with my last two activities.
  • My watch updated to 5.0 before my run today. 15km run and about 10% drain after I saved my activity. Default face.
  • for me a 14km/1h run took 6% (fully charged 3h before). now 3h later 1 more % is gone. looks ok for me.

I am only using the default watch face. I haven’t tried an activity since the upgrade to few 5.0 yet
  • I’ve been corresponding with Garmin on the post-activity battery drain issue for a few weeks. They offered to swap my hardware, but the latest email hasn’t inspired any confidence that the issue will get fixed.

i think that maybe you have broken device, if issue continue after 5.00 you should consider switch it with offered one. yesterday before upgrade i noticed strange behawiour with wrist hr, after activity it didnt go into power saving mode, eg. it didnt blink, it was constantly emmiting light, while after the update seems everything is fine.

I went for a two-hour trail run with GPS, HR, music, and turn-by-turn. Stock face, 5.0.

    Start: 75%
    Finish: 55%
    Five hours later: 45%
    Following morning: 41%

That seems like a slight improvement in post-activity battery drain. Before 5.0, I'd get more than 10% residual drain after a 50-minute run with GPS, HR, and music.
  • Today, 4:45h of trail running activity, my F5+Ti lost 33,7% with whr on, gps+galileo, navigation on. Very good consumption but....after saving the activity, it lost about 5-6% in the next couple of hours. I use default watchface. The only custom thing that I have enabled, is the Battery Gauge widget. The post activity draining is improved but unfortunately there is still a bug here...
  • i can confirm that issue with broken battery meter still exists, after charged to 100%, and overnight sleep, battery indicator after 8 hours is still 100%, watch reboot fixes this. im with custom watch-face but if i go to setting at the top corner which said 100% too.
Also 1 questions to garmin devs:
    1) are you using semantic versioning?
  • Deleted my 3P watch face and switched to a standard one. Went on a 10 mile run.

Battery discharged 2.25% in the first hour after the run, and continued excessive discharging – albeit at a slower rate – for a few hours after the run.

I run with a Stryd and use a 3P heart rate data field, but disconnected the Stryd immediately after the run and turned the sensor connection to off.
