Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model

"Why exchange the watch when you're experiencing the same results as everyone else?"

This forum thread is specifically about battery drain. How many 5+ users don't even read this thread as they aren't having any problems ? It's difficult to determine percentage wise how many users are experiencing this problem. On a phone call earlier today with support, I was assured that hardly any fenix 5+ users have reported a problem with battery drain.

Or to look at it another way:-

    - How many users are observant enough or even care about battery consumption, or even know that these forums exist.

    - Never trust a Garmin support representative when they say they've never been informed of this issue.

There are so many different users. I had a 21% drain during sleeping at night this week. I am observing and charging more than I was expecting to do when I purchased my 5S+. But still expecting this to be solved by FW update, I am sure this is not a hardware issue.

I own a 5S+ (upgraded from 5S) and I read these forums, even though I consider myself luckier. OK, I am a bit disappointed by battery life compared to the amazing BL of the original 5S, but I must say I have never had any issue of battery meter stuck at 100%, or inconsistent battery data display... As someone said earlier I am ready to give up on a bit of battery life for the additional features (...music, guys !!!). If you are not, then... maybe the 5S+ isnt the right model for you ? :)

Anyway, don't mean to make any clear statement here, just contributing to the general effort of undertanding if something's wrong, HW or SW...
  • Is anyone else experience severe battery drain after an activity? After any of my rides or runs I've been noticing about 10% battery drain in the hour after I save my activity.
  • Random uptick from 90%-100% when charging seems fixed with 5.0. Thats good news. Well done Garmin. Please fix the post activity drain now!!!

    Nope it is still there.

    Have that as well.
Using Battery Gouge i have ~0.5% per hour during workday.
A one our run ~8% with GPS.
Afterwards i see a hourly drain of 3%.
When rebooting the watch everything is back to normal. Bit a disappointing when coming from the Fenix3.
I also noticed both strange jumps when loading (and staying at 100% for hours after fully loaded the watch over night)

I installed FW5.0 today and went for a 8k run. 4 hours after the run my 5+ has further reduced 2%. Seems OK to me. The watch has been off charge for around 20 hours now and is at 82% with the run included.

I am seeing the same with 5.0 and GPS 2.30. I think the severe battery drain after an activity has been corrected or significantly improved.
  • Hey everyone, we at Garmin are still looking into this but since I am starting to see a few new faces in here, I wanted to post this FAQ again. Features that Affect Battery Life on Outdoor Wearable

Also, after working with a few of you one on one, I would like to ask how many of you are using a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party watch face or if you are using a default watch face that came on the fenix? If you are using a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party watch face, could you please try a default one over the weekend to see if you see any difference in your battery life.
If you do or do not see a difference, please let me know in this thread.
