Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
  • Battery life has been much better for me with 7.10. Although since I got my model swapped out, it has generally been better anyway.

I'm thinking of getting mine switched too.
  • It's now 27 hours since my first 100%charge on FW7.10, and I'm now down to 83%, which should give 0,63% drain per hour, and that is included 1h of running with GPS, chest strap and foot pod.
Assuming the drain is linear it should give 6,6 days including 6,6h GPS (all bells and whistles enabled, BT, OHR, 1s recording, notifications etc.etc.)

Probably a bit worse than the promised up to 12day smart watch or 18h GPS, but not too bad either?

EDIT: Smart watch consumption should be 0,35%/h while GPS consumption should be 5,56%/h.
    In my example that should give 26*0,35 + 1*5,56 = 14,67%.

So, the actual drop of 17% is not that bad compared to the theoretical 14,67% drop.

I am not happy buying a 1000 dollar watch and spending countless days on trying to get it to work with a crap battery. My battery wasnt working properly from day 1, spoke to garmin they recommended this and that which I did and eventually I got it to last 13 days, by discharging to 0% and recharging. I then used it as just a watch - no wifi - no blutooth, no exercise, no gps, just a watch face with heart rate and steps on the screen, then 4 days ago the battery started draining. 5% an hour loss- no settings have been changed, the back light is on a minimum setting, no connection to any device, no auto update I did the 7.10 update and still the problem continues, I have done every hard reset and problem still continues, I tried to roll back the firmware to see if that changed anything and I could not get it to roll back. I am not running any 3 rd party apps or watch faces just the basic garmin face that came with the watch. At 5% an hour battery drain that isnt even a days use I get just using it as a watch. I left the watch on an overnight charge after letting the battery fully discharge, unplugged it from charger at 8:30am and at 8:45am it was down to 98%, at 1000am it is down to 92%. Just tried pairing the watch to tablet and laptop the watch doesnt show up on either now!!!I will be calling garmin tomorrow.
  • Everyone,

If any of you are continuing to have issues with your fenix’s battery life after the last software update, please reach out to us at Garmin through our Product Support channels (phone, email, or chat) so that our support teams can work with you directly.

    Thank you,

  • Garmin Netherlands is seeking approval to have my f+ts replaced. Last night it, again, drained with 1.8% /h while lying next to my bed. Definitely not ok.
  • So far I had no battery issues with my Fenix 5 plus.
Since last update (fw 7.10) I'm seeing largely increased battery consumption during activity (10%/h GPS activity without music) and extremely low after activity (almost 0 during several hours).

NB I also noticed bluetooth connection issues, my stryd footpad ans my HRM tri remain connected for a long time after an activity causing the stryd battery to die. I now have to turn the connection off manually.
