Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
  • yup, that's been highlighted in this thread by a number of us. We all tend to leave it charge for an extra 45-60 mins after it shows 100% as it's misreporting the level.

Literally just had a message from Garmin to say please try using latest beta and if it doesn't fix the battery charging or post GPS activity drainage issues, then they would like to arrange a replacement. In smartwatch only mode (BT and HR) my battery lasts for advertised amount if not longer
  • Gr4z - your replacement F5+ has the battery charge issue fixed (correct % at all times) and no post GPS activity battery drain?

    Thanks,

chatlow ha, no! It has seemingly fixed the post activity drain issue. But the incorrect battery meter is still there. Charge to 100%, reboot watch and you then get a random figure that isn't 100%!! This has been there for months and months.

    Since day 1...
  • yeah same for me. Good news that post battery drainage is gone for you though, I would love to know what the replacement watch does or has had done to it to fix that.

I may well take them up on the offer of RMA so at least it's just incorrect charging level - which I can live with. The rest is almost perfect for me - couple of blips here and there but otherwise I love the watch.
  • Oh, yeah, now you mention it, I did see this posted before. But there are so many unwanted features I get confused sometimes.

In the mean time, 9 hours later my battery percentage is UP from 96 to 97 percent Go figure.

I'm still convinced that the fast majority of battery problems is software related and that Garmin could fix them provided they have good software engineers and developers employed. But I'm starting to doubt that ...

  • Hello forum
I am from Germany, therefore my bad English. I myself have with my F5 + the problem with the battery drain after finishing an activity! In watch mode and recording, the battery is great. Is this problem solved with the latest beta firmware?
    Thanks and regards

    To me: no
  • I've seen the bug this week. Charged watch from ~20% up to 70%. Watch stayed at 70% for 2 days which I thought was odd so plugged in to charge again and it jumped to 80% immediately. Something is not right.

This is the same bug that is still here since day 1, i have lost any hopes that they will fix it, i'm not reporting it to beta team anymore since it's a waste of time.

So I updated to the beta software and my battery issues appear to be fixed. I'm now on day 4 of usage with about an hour or 2 of GPS use everyday at still at 45% which is way better than I was previously getting where it would only last only 3 days of similar use .
