Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
  • Not noticed much difference with Galileo in terms of position accuracy. Early days for me though. I remember a fair bit of disappointment on here when early + users didn't see a dramatic improvement in accuracy

When you say "not fully implemented" is that a reference to the Brexit situation? Presumably even if we leave the open system would still be available, unless the UK decided to restrict hardware, very unlikely.
  • More updates on my testing:

    - After Hard reset: same 0.6-0.7% battery drain per hour.
    - After Disable heart monitor and bluetooth: 0.5% battery drain per hour.
    - After Downgrade to firmware 10.0: same.
    - After full discharge - full charge of 10h: 0.46%/hour (11%/day)

I think it's far from what it should be
  • First of all, the "0.6-0.7% battery drain per hour" seems to be ok for me. It is close to my old F3HR. Simply, one week of battery life in smart-watch mode with several GPS activities.
For those worried about the battery condition try this:
    - charge the watch to 100 percent
    - turn it OFF and let be 24 hours (I know it is hard since you want to play with it and use it)
    - power it ON and look at the battery level
In my case both Fenixes drained 24 percent per day even they were OFF. I suspect it might be sign of faulty battery. I don't know but it is strange. Isn't it?
  • I just got my F5S plus yesterday. It was all dead after unpacked... Charged it to 100% - rebooted it - plugged in again, still 100% - made a soft-reset, still 100% - so far so good.

I set up the watch added a running profile. Downloaded Stryd app. Played with watch faces. All time with OHR on and connected to my S8 via BT. Sleeped with it and now 15 hours later battery is down to 89%.

That's ok I think, considering I played quite a bit with it...
  • So, this morning I did 60 mins Strength and 20 mins Stair Climber and the battery burn was less then the same time when watch is just monitoring steps and heart rate. Maybe the battery is great for activities but not great when not in activity modes.
  • So i have just sent my 5+ Ti back. Basically it was getting less than 48 hours purely on smart watch mode with everything turned right down as suggested and not doing Activities post reboot and firmware upgrade. Only thing i had on is OHR and notifications. It was losing over 25% over night while i was asleep for 7 hours.

Hopefully they will send a replacement with a battery working to what some of you are reporting of getting hours wise as really liked the new features and the lightness of the Ti.

Back on my F5 and have lost only 10% in the 4 days i have been wearing it so far this week.

    sigh. so we wait
  • I have had mine for 8 full days now, and starting with an overnight charge at 100% at 8:00AM, this morning at 8:00AM I'm down to 19% (after 8 full days if use). There were some GPS walks in there, I'll count how many later. Also some treadmill runs, constant OHR use, constant BT connection to my phone and a watch face without seconds. It's using between 8% and 14% per day. I guess that puts it mostly on Garmin's spec, although my F5 did better. Still on the fence about keeping it.

  • This is exactly what I have expected from Garmin after great battery experience with F3HR. I guess some of us simply got a faulty unit.

Hope, I get a replacement which would last like yours.
  • New 5+ and just on a week of 24/7 with about 10 hrs of GPS swimming, cycling and running with external sensors, BT and 1s recording and it was down to 16% after last night’s run. Good enough for me. I would prefer the battery life of the 935 or 920, but I can live with this.

Personally, I think Garmin should set expectations much lower when it comes to their battery...

I'm still fighting with them which is exhausting and not necessary. Just wish they treated their customers a little bit better as they clearly monitor these forums and know there is an issue with some (not all) units.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1431434.jpg
