Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
  • I fully charged watch and left charging an hour after 100% last night.

    Nov 21 8:30pm 100%
    Nov 22 9:30am 96%
Nov 22 10:26am 100% connected to computer to updated firmware and maps

Nov 22 11:32 96% 45 min run with GPS HRM Notifications

    Nov 22 12:34 92%

I noticed that the HRM is still connected in settings. It’s this normal?

  • lucky1976 what do you mean by connected my hrms show in the list of sensors but as you scroll down each one says searching not connected
  • Hi, can someone explain this?

    - 2 weeks old Fenix 5X plus Sapphire - latest 5.1 firmware - just after hard reset without any IQ app, no BT connection, no sensors, 100% charged, just sitting on the desk - after 8 hours 90%

    - brand new Fenix 5 Sapphire "non-plus" - latest 11 firmware - fully setup, several IQ apps, some sensors, BT connection enabled and paired to a Garmin account, 100% charged, on my hand - after 8 hours 89%

Both watches consume approximately 1% per hour = 24% per day = 4 days in watch mode NOT 20 days as Garmin says. Is it a bug? A feature?
  • @MiGR73cz Common experience - Charged my 5+ Sunday PM now at 29% Friday AM after abbout 2 Hrs GPS + Galileo and 1.25 Hrs non-GPS Swimming along with 24/7 HR and BT on etc now at 29% - Identical configuration to my 935 and looking like about 50% life compared to the 935 which is disappointing for a new watch. However GArmin are trying to get to the bottom of this so the more info they have the better.
  • 43% just over 9.5 days. 1.5hrs GPS.

No BT . Simple stock face with only date and battery.

  • 35% 10days 15hrs. 2hrs 10mins GPS.

  • Fair bit of battery drain today at the lower end.

    28% 11days exactly.

That's 7% drain since my run, with a reboot to try and counter that supposed post activity drain.
  • Ok, in my case I simply have bad luck for both units. First of all, both were completely dead when I got them. Second, both drain battery even they are powered OFF, approximately 1 percent per hour. It means the battery is loosing about 24 percent per day, thus it cannot hold energy even in OFF mode. I suspect that nothing what can be solved by a firmware update.

    Here is what I've tested:
    1. charge the watch for 100 percent
    2. turn it OFF
    3. turn it ON after 24 hours -> the battery lost 24 percent. I think this not normal.

    Just for reference:
    5Xplus sn: 5G5027xxx
5 sn: 53A156xxx RMA for my old F3HR

Therefore, I am sending both units back to a seller and Garmin.
  • That definitely isn't right. Where are you based?
    Give it one more shot.

I bought in Cotswold UK and explicttly asked for a sealed box, as they had some that were not.
  • unfortunately this was my second thoughts, broken battery, maybe it have high internal disicharge rate ... this can be either bad litium package or, electronic component (like HT7530) itself, thah controls battery .... wich is very very bad
