Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
• I have no issues with battery at all. Even today a half marathon, all sensors on, outside, maps on, 11 hours later and only 20% used.

So, for 2 usage cycles and charging back to 100% ; showing poorer battery life than can be expected from Garmin advertising ... on my third assessment, again a loss of 79% over 7 days ... over 11% per day. FAR poorer than fenix 5 and significantly poorer than their advertising suggests.

I appreciate that battery drain is not 100% linear, (constant loss per unit time under constant conditions) yet battery % should be reflected in the calibration of the battery percentage watch reading in a pragmatic and usable manner. If that is so ;

Using their published battery longevity figures for GPS mode and Smartwatch use, I am 10% lower than their figures suggest. In my experience the battery is not lasting as expected. I have NOT been using maps, music or Garmin pay.

My own (possibly misplaced) faith in Garmin has been significantly dented. I am very disappointed.
• Since there seem to be a few different concerns being talked about in this thread, and we want to investigate all of them. To do this, we need more details to understand what is happening and find a way to reproduce it on our end. To provide us with that data, please email us at "][email protected] with your device type in the title so that your email gets sorted to the correct team.

In the body of the email, add the following:
• Your concerns and any examples of what you have seen.
• How you are using the device daily (ex. Music, 3-hour run, daily watch...)
• Garmin Folder

Once we have the data that we need, I will follow up in this thread.
• Almost 4 hours swimming wwit version 4.65 and the battery drain was only 17%...hrm on,bt off and gps only..gps accuracy was ok but needed to have the watxh out of the sea while on the fenix 5 i didn't have this problem.

I have done the above sometime ago, I have emailed Richard a couple of times asking for acknowledgement, as yet no reply
• Hi to all. Count me in the affected watches. I have installed the latest beta today. First I saw the incorrect battery indicator. It jumped from 90 to 100% while charging . I have restarted it a few times and after 30minutes it went to a true 100%. I thought ok first charge that would do I guess. After 3 hours it was still 100% so I started an activity. Running plus music in a stadium. After the end of my workout the watch dropped 3%. I thought this is reasonable and I was very pleased at the moment(previous fenix 5 user). I stopped the activity and restarted the watch just in case. As I am writing this 30 minutes after the end of my workout the battery dropped another 3%. 3% in smart watch mode after 30 minutes it is unacceptable and not normal. Something is wrong and garmin has to sort it out. It is my 2nd day with the watch. No fiddling today at all.

I'm quite shocked. Garmin support have offered to replace my few weeks old pristine condition £750 watch with a refurbished product. Is that the refurbished products that are often found at significantly reduced prices ? Are they guaranteed to be as blemish free as my own watch ? How many times has the battery been drained thus reducing the number of recharges ?
• You will receive a newly overhauled replacement. Our newly overhauled (NOH) devices are devices that have been returned to Garmin to be factory refurbished. Newly overhauled devices go through extensive testing to bring the units up to the same specifications as when they were manufactured as new, maintaining high quality standards.
... and they'll only take 10-14 days from receipt to return it or its replacement ... and they suggest that when I pay for shipping I should insure it ... for what I believe to be their defective battery. Am I being unreasonable to expect a repair or a brand new replacement ?

No way I would tolerate that. The watch battery has been an issue for me since day one. I would expect them to ship me a NEW watch, then pay for me to ship my old one back to them. I shouldn't to be without a watch or put out any money for something that is their issue.
• Yea they paid for shipping both ways and gave me a new watch when my button broke...
• I have had confirmation from Charlie that they have received my information and Garmin file and it has been added to the open case reference the battery drain. Could I encourage anybody that hasn't done so, to follow the steps above and report theirissues to Garmin. The more info they have the better our chances are of having what I would put money on being a straight forward software issue resolved.
