To recap; i don't mind paying for maps. The standard map didn't have the level of detail i wanted and the OSM maps i've tried for my region do not have enough routable trails. The 24k topo was both more detailed and routable for more of the trails i cared about. To SUSSAMB 's point, if the talkytoaster maps are based on the same Open Street Maps that I've already tried, i wouldn't be happy with them.
I don't like that Garmin doesn't make it easy to transfer purchased maps from one Fenix to another. Hopefully this will get worked out in the future.
