700i constantly losing external power

Had a 700i for about 7 months mounted on my adventure bike with the rugged mount and everything has been fine until yesterday when it started showing the ‘external power lost’ message and starting the countdown, but then the map will come back shortly afterwards. It was intermittent at first, but now it happens every few seconds and so in its current state, it’s unusable. My initial thoughts were a power supply issue as in a dodgy connection, but when the bike is stationery it’s fine but if I move the unit slightly in the cradle I can replicate the issue. Im thinking a pin connection fault ?

i faced similar problem using the mount and loosing external power, Its a design failure with a simple solution.I have informing to Garmin if they want to solve it.

Hello,

Several fellow bikers and I have the same power problem on the Garmin Montana 700 with AMPS support. Despite our claims, videos, photos and other things about the ruling, Garmin has smoked a cigar (or two). I would like to know what would be the solution to this annoying problem... Thank you.

All I can tell is what happened to my 700 and that was that the contacts on the device itself had become pock marked by the pins of the AMPS mount, and I believed that was the root cause of the intermittent power loss in my situation. Once my 700i unit was replaced, everything has been fine.

hi, put a piece (plastic) between the gps and the amps craddle avoiding vibrations. 100% proved from my side. I hope solve your problem.

My Montana 700 has quite marked contacts, like some holes in the contact plates. This has happened in only 2 days of use, on a motorcycle trip. Then I had to remove the connector so as not to go crazy with the continuous beeps of the GPS when losing external power! I strongly believe that the design is wrong, and that Garmin does not want to take responsibility for it!

Did anyone figure out what is the root of this issue? I have a replacement Garmin montana 700I and have replaced the mount also. Also tried to clean the contacts every ride. Have same mounts on different machines . Have not been able to determine where the issue is. Frustrating.

Thank you very much for your answer, really appreciate it. It's a shame to have to resort to these solutions, to solve a problem with a product that costs more than €90 here... And I think it's shameful for a renowned brand like Garmin.
