Inreach Mini 3+ on Garmin homepage

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/1756582/pn/010-03387-10/

No Topo maps! Only basemap and navigation via Explore app.

  • Cool they offer 2 models. Not sure I need voice and images though less than $50 difference. After reviewing the specs, I'll take the voice as appears you can use it separate from a phone as well and in an injury situation to be able to speak and send could be a real game changer.

  • Yes you can but only through outdoor maps + annual plan

    Starting at £4.99 per month!

    www.garmin.com/.../

  • But you have to pay for it nevertheless with 3 of 4 consumer plans (because it is include the plan (depending on plan 10/25/50 pics/vms))

  • Maps are seperate to sos plans, even the premium plan doesn't include maps, the inreach 2 with essential activation plan seems best for my needs

  • I was only talking about pics and vms. I think the mentioned maps are only usable for the Explore app.

    Maps & Memory

    Basemap v
Automatic routing (turn by turn routing on roads) for outdoor activities yes (via Garmin Explore App)
Satellite Imagery yes (via Garmin Explore App)
Includes detailed hydrographic features (coastlines, lake/river shorelines, wetlands and perennial and seasonal streams) yes (via Garmin Explore App)
Includes searchable points of interests (parks, campgrounds, scenic lookouts and picnic sites) yes (via Garmin Explore App)
Displays national, state and local parks, forests, and wilderness areas yes (via Garmin Explore App)
  • Garmin chat told me you can use topo on the device, but with subscription.

It would be a ridiculous mark up if you couldn't have maps on the device.

Unfortunately inreach mini 3 doesn't come up on comparison page at moment to compare to mini 2 to decide

  • Seems that a barometric altimeter is still missing (like as for the mini 2). Not listed in the specs at the sensor list. Still not a good idea for an outdoor device...

  • It uses GPS for altitude, but barometric would be useful for local weather

Its a good piece of kit, expensive though, if you have need to be on water or out in stix out of comms range I can see how all the messaging features would be useful, its not a mobile hot-spot for general use, requires a seperate app that not everyone will have for person to person comms

Sos feature and touch screen make it much easier as fully stand alone but youd need a phone for voice and pic transfer anyway, no cameras like gpsmap h1i plus which has access to connect iq, not clear if voice control extends to leaving voice messages from the device directly

If you need a phone why bother with further topo on device, im sure ill think of more

Alot to think about given price and capabilities compared to fenix 8 pro, ~15 hours livetrack but longer for sos used sparingly, or mini 2 or other alternatives for my needs

  • I have strong doubts that the OM+ maps you can buy there are for the M3+ on device installation – in my opinion, they're only for the Explore app – I wouldn't rely on the chat statement. If it were possible, it would certainly be clearly highlighted/advertised on the M3+ homepage, because this would be a major update compared to the Mini 2! Garmin, please clarification about this!
