InReach Mini 2 not recording High Detail

My InReach Mini 2 isn't recording high detail activities, it's only recording the 10 minute tracking points.  It's set to High Detail Activity recording but it's not doing it.  I can see on the InReach screen that it's showing the same data as I see on the computer.  I've seen that this has been a known issue for some time, is there any progress on fixing this yet?

  • Garmin won't (or can't) try the simple steps I've given them to replicate the problem each time I've reported it, and the go-smacking response has been no-one else is reporting it.

Best you can do is also raise a support case with Garmin for your region

  • Thanks, it sounds like it's by design but I don't like it so it'd be good if there was an option to change it.  I'll raise a case with them and see what they say.

    Fingers crossed.

  • It's a defect, not by design. The product is not performing to published specifications.

There are a few bugs with this functionality, this one the worst. I'm presuming you have Auto Track "On", that setting has a bug which kills High Detail recording. If you turn it off and start tracking manually you will get the high detail.

The dilemma Garmin have left us with is if you forget to start tracking manually you get nothing, or set Auto Track on so it does start on power up but the defect degrades the recording interval to 10 minutes.

  • Garmin didn’t differ it quite good in its menus.

Recording is recording an activity and uploading it to Garmin Connect or Garmin Explore. This has to be started on the device via Menü->Start Trecking. There you can set the High Detail in the settings wich should be far more points then every ten minutes. Last time I checked, I think it was every minute?

Then there is „tracking“ in form of sending the devices location. This can be set to 10 minutes upwards. In older SW versions, this was always active but it now seems to be linked to activity recording? I can’t try it because im on the smallest plan. This is what is enabled with „Auto Track“. It doesn’t record an activity but only sends your location.

The most common mistake was that people had an live track on the Earthmate/Explore page but no activity in Connect.

  • Auto Track "on" starts Activity Recording internally within the device when it is turned on

But with the long-standing defect it does not respect High Detail if set, the bug only captures 10-minute intervals.

High detail is not time based like every minute; the algorithm captures points as needed to reflect changes in direction.

Auto Track "on" will only start inReach Tracking if a Send Interval has also been selected, not it has been set to Off.
