Confirming High Detail Activity Recording is still broken in this update, will not record High Detail if Auto Track is On.

Will only record a quick burst of points at extremely coarse 10-minute intervals.

Just a question: without using autotrack, high detail activity recording is working for you?

No...and maybe yes.

No because it's not mine, I got it for my partner as a safety device. She doesn't remember to enable High Detail manually every time, and even if she did gets confused with the tracking/recording terminology and config settings. Even experienced users get confused with this. And this would be particularly an issue in an emergency, so in a product functionality sense setting manually doesn't work. We just need it to honor the feature set and simply come on when it's turned on

Maybe yes in a technical sense. If you enable High Detail manually you will normally get high detail. However, this issue is only one aspect of a series of associated instability issues we have noticed. High Detail & Auto On is the most important one, and the one I'm narrowing down on in the hope Garmin may actually fix. But there are also others in the list I reported a couple years ago that are less common but can also impact:

High Detail will not record in high detail if inReach Tracking is enabled and Auto Track is on.
Standard detail activity logging inexplicably switches between Standard 10min interval and High Detail without user intervention.
Standard detail activity recording will not honor the inReach Tracking interval.
Standard Detail logging will log multiple points through a 20 second window at each interval, not just a single point.
