Inreach mini2 Messaging-recipient no longer able to receive messages

Hello,

I have been using my InReach mini-2 without issue when sending text messages from the Garmin Explore App on my Iphone 13 (us based number) to my partner's iPhone 13 (to a French phone number) for 2 years.

On my last hike I sent several text messages to her, The app confirmed that the messages were sent (and I heard the little chirp from my InReach Mini2) but my wife's phone did not receive the messages.

I turned the device and my phone off and on.

I checked to see if my subscription was still valid.

I checked to see if her phone number was still listed under contacts.

No luck.

I can send a message to her email OK and to her U.S. phone number but for some reason it appears that she can no longer send or receive a text message from my InReach device/garmin explore app. Could it be that it's an issue because I'm sending to a French phone number?  I'm not certain as I didn't have any problems in the past.  Maybe it's something simple.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

  • I'd suggest contacting Garmin Support for this. Sometimes there are issues with SMS deliveries to certain telecom providers or countries. Also the article inReach Messages Not Received by a Phone Number (SMS Text Message) may help solve this.

You did not mention it in your post, but did your partner use the Messenger App with the French number and uninstalled the app? If so inReach messages are not delivered as SMS but only to the Messenger app (which is uninstalled). See inReach Messages Not Received After Uninstalling Garmin Messenger.

  • Thank you very much for your response. The recipient isn’t using the Garmin Messenger app on her phone. She normally just receives a normal text when I send a message through the messenger app on my IPhone and am using the inReach device.

I sent a message to the help site last Sunday and haven’t heard anything back. I went through the suggestions from the link you sent. I’ll  just wait for a response and will report back what the issue is.

    Many thanks for your assistance.

    Regards,

    Resin

  • Based on forum posts, email is not very effective for support tickets. Seems to be kind of black hole. If given the opportunity, use chat or phone instead.

  • Hi all, just a follow up.

My email seemed to go nowhere as indicated what would happen by twolpart. So I opened up a chat with the Garmin help desk. They were unable to resolve the issue on the chat or after the first escalation of the ticket.

Apparently, they needed to reroute something.  After the second attempt it looks like they have resolved the issue today.  My wife suddenly received several messages that I sent to her several days ago.

I am now able to send and receive messages from my wife's French phone to my US phone as I used to.

    Thanks everyone.
