New 2024 inReach Consumer Subscription Plan Changes question

Hey Garmin-Leslie,

one question for clarification: if I switch from a Mini 2 with Safety plan to a new Standard plan, I am not able send photos/voice messages via the Messenger app, because this is only possible with the new Messenger Plus due to hardware changes? I have not read this, maybe I have overlooked it? Otherwise there should be more clarification about that!

  • The previous pricing for some countries did not align with the US pricing.  That has now been adjusted to match the US pricing, which considers exchange rates and the inclusion of VAT.

  • I think you have to pay the activation fee twice for your second option ( 2 months/year and cancel contract )

  • It's all getting too complicated, too expensive and hiding the Enabled plan is decptive.
with iPhone opffering SOS for their newer phones, i will be considering selling my Min soon - shme as i have loved having it.

  • hiding the Enabled plan is decptive

Is it really hidden? Isn´t it shown as an option to choose, if you have an activated plan?  Perhaps (only) some more clearly visible informations needed.

I have an iPhone 14 with satellite SOS possibility, too. But on longer rough trips, it is not my first choice due to battery consumption and robustness... (unless you take an additional battery with you to charge it, or have a robust protective case) - but it is welcome as a backup. The iPhone may be well suited for the normal Sunday afternoon excursion in good weather etc. - but everyone has to decide for themselves and of course you can see things differently.Wink

  • I haven't swapped to new plan so didn't see any information or pricing, only realized when I spoke to them.

iPhone, I agree not best, but the new plans make it very expensive for people who need 3 or 4 times a year

  • I'm no Garmin apologist, but there's also an argument to be made that it can be one heck of a lot more expensive not to have one if things go pear shape.

I don't like the new prices; here in NZ they went from $42 to $60 a month (I'm staying on the old plan), but at the end of the day I suspect that if we listed the totals of what everything costs us over the course of a year - and sorted that list from highest to lowest - Garmin plans wouldn't be particularly high on the list. I've certainly spent more on junk food in a single day on many occasions than what my IR plan costs me each month.

  • May depend on the way one is using the iR functionlities (tracking, sending messages, requesting weather reports...), but perhaps the enabled plan may be cheaper (if you only sent some messages etc.); one has to remember: the device is fully usable with enabled plan (you only have to pay extra for messaging/tracking etc.).

Yes, I've heard that the price increase in NZ is significant.
