No longer able to sent myself text messages for check in messages. Icon isn't a phone by my number anymore - it's a message icon.

What the title says - up until very recently, when I sent one of my pre-set check ins (just switched them over to the newer check in messages) and while I can finally get it to go to my email address, I can't send a check in to my cell as a text message. I noticed that the icon next to my phone number is a message icon instead of a phone icon - so did something change to prevent sending of a message to SMS when it's the account holder's number? It's still successfully texting my other contacts for those presets.

First, be sure that the number on the check-in message is correct, including the country code (+! for North America).

On the explore website you can put two or more names, yours and your wife’s as recipients of the check in messages. Then both of you will receive the check in messages simultaneously regardless of who sends the message. It works for me, but you will receive your own message too, so as a bonus then you also know that it was transmitted via the iridium network.

Hello mtntrls Please see How Mobile Numbers Are Used in the Garmin Messenger App for more information on how your phone number is used with the messenger app. Outside of that in the app or anyone with a messenger app the icon will show two message bubble icons. If you select your contact that has that icon and send a message you will see the message is still delivered to your phone number and phones messaging app.

That used to be the case but a few months ago that changed and messages sent when my inReach was paired with my husbands phone (instead of mine) were no longer delivered to the phone (as text messages) - and only showed up in the app. Emails still sent as expected

Welcome to MESSenger. You can un-hijack your phone by de-registering the number in the Messenger app. The ability to do so is buried, but I no longer remember how to do it.

Hello mtntrls It sounds like this is happening due to the device/app being associated to both his phone number and yours and most likely not have either disassociated. You will need to see Lending an inReach Messenger Device which give great detail to how these can be shared. In this case please see the last bullet point which gives a link with how to pair a device to a different mobile number. You will need to follow those steps on both phones most likely at this point and start again new on your own phone and then test again.

Sounds like you might be a victim of phone number hijacking by MESSenger app. W/o getting into gory details (which nobody can understand anyhow), SMS messages go to the Messenger app, not to your regular SMS app. If you don’t look in Messenger, you don’t see them at all…
