A brand new inReach Mini 2 device. We bought a subscription and have been trying to activate it. How long should it normally take? Display shows Waiting for Response for over an hour with no changes.

If you have completed the activation process in the Garmin Messenger app or on the Explore website, but the inReach Mini 2 is not showing as activated after pairing with the Garmin Messenger app or being…
We have an older inReach explorer that worked perfectly in June 22. We returned to the Bahamas in October and on testing the device, I received successfully two test messages on the Earthmate page. The…
eventually it just says activation took too long and tells me to go to the website, so its just a loop, website says pending activation, device isnt getting confirmation, arghghghghghghghghg
I can't tell for sure what you are doing. "Activation" is a two-step process.
1) Create an account at explore.garmin.com. This is where you enter the IMEI and verification code. Then select…
Depending on just when this happened, you MIGHT have a hit a maintenance window. There have been several recent maintenance activities affecting activation.
You can check current status here: https://status.garminservicesbilling.com/
Note that the "bars" do NOT reflect maintenance. I guess Garmin doesn't count it as "down" if they did it on purpose? If you scroll down, you can see incident summaries at the bottom. The summaries DO include maintenance. Go figure.
You can use the button in the upper right corner to subscribe to email notifications. I find that feature useful. YMMV.
I’m having this same issue with my new InReach mini 2
If you have completed the activation process in the Garmin Messenger app or on the Explore website, but the inReach Mini 2 is not showing as activated after pairing with the Garmin Messenger app or being outdoors with an open view of the sky for at least 20 minutes, please contact Product Support directly for assistance with your device.
Sept. 7, 2024. Inreach mini 2 won't activate and the service center is closed on weekends so there is nothing I can do for 2 days (great). Account, billing etc all set up and received an email that it has been activated but the device itself say's that it is not.
SAME HERE. .
Based on forum traffic and automated status reports from Garmin, the activation and billing software on the server side is becoming less and less reliable. In this situation, you have to make changes (plan changes, billing changes, activation, resume/suspend, etc.) WELL in advance of when you need it. Days or weeks, not hours. it's a shame we have to do this, but Garmin cannot seem to fix the mess.
Garmin has never offered weekend support. That is also bad for this type of device, but I doubt that it's going to change.
There has not been a reported problem since September 3. Which is not to say there has not been a subsequent problem. Garmin only reports what they notice.
The worst new device activation experience ever. Garmin inreach 2 is in perpetual “waiting for response.”
Ive gone online to garmin site and activated the device, I have secured a subscription and done the steps including going outdoors to clear sky to attempt activation.
Terrible experience.
Wow. What a disappointment. “Activation In Progress” spinning for over an hour. No clear instructions on what to do. What waste of money and time.
I have a new Messenger and this is where I got stuck too. I started trying to fix it, now I can't figure out what else to do and it is the weekend. it is still showing as not activated. The devices is in my Garmin account. The device is connected in my Messenger account. I have no active plan.
Frustrating, and I was hoping to use it tomorrow.
I have no active plan
You can only activate your device if you have an active inReach plan. Without an active plan you won’t be able to activate and use the inReach features of the device.
