Trouble Sending

Sometimes when I pick up the H1 and unlock it, there is a notification that immediately displays that reads “Trouble Sending”. What does this mean? This happens when I’m not even using the H1, sitting on my desk. It has happened with the WiFi and Bluetooth on or off, low power mode messaging.  I feel like the battery drains fast when never I see this pops up.

is “sending” the communication with the gps satellite or something else, can whatever it’s sending be turned off temporarily? I’ve looked through the settings and I haven’t come across anything that could be related to the notification.

  • “… and then I’ll shut up forever :)”

    Of course I’m a liar… Lying face

Before the walk, it would be important to get a "Trouble Sending" notification again. If the walk clears it, the problem becomes a little less mysterious (outgoing queues of failed requests of some sort, presumably to the satellite system—queues that clear when, outdoors, the system is able to send the pending requests), and we realize it's not a bug but normal behavior (albeit described by a less than perspicuous message).

You could play with Messenger on the unit a little (indoors—very indoors, if possible): for example, send a few messages, put the H1i on standby, wait a while, and then wake it up. If the notification doesn't appear, try doing the same thing from Messenger on the iPhone. As you correctly did before, keep an eye on the Explore website. Short, try your best to reproduce the issue. Then, well, walk :)

The problem might not be that the system occasionally fails to send messages, but using Messenger could also cause other types of requests to be initiated.

  • Please reply back to this thread if you continue to see this message popup on your device. Ensure that on your walk there is nothing that could obstruct the device's view of the sky to acquire a fresh satellite connection including low hanging branches or tall buildings. The device should acquire satellite signal after at least 20 minutes.

  • Hello. I took a walk around 7:30pm today and skies were clear, no tall buildings or tress in my path for 30min. After my last post yesterday and until about 3pm today I still received the "trouble sending" message. The unit was off up until my walk today. While out on my walk and up until now, I have not received any notifications. One thing that did happen was last night around 11pm, I received a message from Garmin SOS emergency asking what my emergency was. The messaged was time stamped at 9:11am.

At around 9:05am till 9:15am I was on the phone with Garmin for a scheduled SOS test, which I performed over the phone with them. I did receive a confirmation message during that time from the Garmin representative during the call which we both verified. It was kinda strange to receive this other message asking my emergency, it seemed like someone else from Garmin was responding to my test, perhaps they were unaware I was performing a test at that time..

Initially I thought that message from Garmin was the suspected culprit of  the "trouble sending" notification. I deleted it from the H1i. But today I continued to get the same notification. On my walk I did notice the Garmin messenger app on my phone had the "delayed" Garmin SOS emergency message, so I deleted that.

    Lets see what happens tomorrow.

  • Good idea. I will try sending myself messages in various ways. Earlier this week I did perform a message test with Garmin and Overwatch, both worked fine, I got confirmation within a couple minutes of sending the test messages.
