Many airlines don't allow devices with internal batteries in checked baggage. And many countries don't allow Garmin equipment in hand baggage. I've had many problems…
NO inReach device will ever be available with AA (or any other non-LiIon battery). Only LiIon provides enough peak power for the iR modem.
That is the TSA recommendation. Devices with installed LiIon batteries should be in carry-on luggage.
It's true, 6383509, that managing gear like powerpacks and cables is a bit of an extra hassle. But where have you found AA batteries available and no grid power available? I've never encountered that. As for weight, a power bank should be lighter and smaller than AA batteries with comparable energy capacity, except for capacities of less than three or four lithium AA batteries (about 45 Watt-hours).
