GPS Software Update

This is for the GPS chip itself. I've never seen release notes on the chip software. I suspect it comes direct from the chip manufacturer.

Never had a problem with one of these updates. Never saw a noticeable difference afterwards, either

Garmin Express doesn't "tell" me, that there is an update.

I believe Garmin rolls updates out gradually, using the early recipients to debug the software.  As far as I know, you have to wait until you come up in the queue.  I learned about the update when I opened Garmin Express.  It automatically said there was an update ready for me to install on my GPSMAP 66i.  I run Garmin Express periodically to update the satellite schedule in my device.

I suspect that Garmin rolls out updates over some time span and delays updating the update history till the rollout is complete to avoid frustrating people who haven't gotten the update yet.  If that's wrong, I'd like to know.  The more logical approach in my opinion is to include a readme file along with the update.  In a perfect world the update information would also be informative.  Many companies, Garmin included, sometimes pretend to provide update information, which in reality are just vague notes that provide little or no meaningful information.
