wifi not connecting

Tried today to connect to a wifi other then in my home.

First tried on the 66i, setup , wifi, then add network.

The screen went blanc , abt every 10-15 sec small 'search circle' flashed up for a second at the bottom of the screen, but then screen is off again.

OK, I got PC up, garmin express, did set up the network there, this went OK.

BUt surprise, when I disconnected the 66i from the PC and restarted it, the wifi network was there, but no way to connect.

The network is WPA2 protected, normal 2.4 band, SSID is broadcasted.

Where is the problem?

  • Is the network set up for a shared key? And are you sure you entered it correctly? Other than that possibility, you covered the important bases - 2.4GHz, broadcast SSID.

That said, I have never tried a second network.

There is some kind of weird requirement to use Garmin express. Never have understood why - something to do with the backend. You might try Express again just to see what IT says thinks it knows about both networks.

  • it was strange, as at my home, there are many networks 'visible', I can just select the correct one and it will work. And yes, I have normally 2 networks in 66i and all works.

Where I was yesterday, there are number of networks around, I deleted even both of my standard networks from 66i. I was not able to see any of the surrounding networks on the 66i and when simply entered it manually on 66i or with express, it was not able to connect anyway. Key and SSID correct, did work on two phones.

  • Might be that all of the networks in that location were 5GHz only?

  • no, at least the one I wanted get on is definitely 2.4

and most others are dual band

no idea, will report when I find why this does not work
