Distance detection not working

My approach Z30 was  working perfect  for  two rounds then  it  stopped detecting any  distance.   I can not  lock on to hazards or pins.   I tried changing the battery no  improvement.   Every one  in  a while it will  briefly  show  me  a distance bit it disappears immediately.

I have  searched  the  web.  No  one  else  seems to  be reporting this.   I am  returning the  unit, but am hesitant to  buy another.  I have a Garmin Epix 2 and love how  they  work together.

Has anyone  else seen this  issue?   I am  guessing I got unlucky, but do  not  want  to  spend  that  much money for a useless range finder.

Note I have  a  Garmin Approach R10, Garmin bike computer, Garmin. Bike radar and have  been  very  happy with  their performance.  So not a hater at  all.

  • I returned mine for a replacement, will see how it works today. This problem seems to be a consistent one and I am confident Garmin will find a solution. My only suggestion is try pairing it again.

  • Might have to do that…when this was working, it was pretty cool. Oh well.

  • Mine has started doing this now too, has there been a solution? Was working find for months and now just blinks the circle on a pin or target and doesn’t give a distance. Tested in ideal conditions. Every now and then it’ll work. I’ve tried changing battery, making sure the laser lens was clean, and connecting to the iOS Garmin golf app. Did it die?

  • Have you checked to make sure it is still paired?

  • It said it was connected in the iOS Garmin golf app whenever you pushed the power button, but why does the rangefinder need to be connected to anything to display the distance? I'm playing tomorrow, maybe all my tinkering tonight will have made it work, but it hasn't reliably worked the last two rounds.

  • The lasered distance through the viewfinder of the unit does not require a connection to the Garmin Golf app.

The Garmin Golf app supplements GPS distance information to the front, middle, and back of the green on the map graphic displayed within the app for each hole.

Exclusively with the Approach Z30, the Garmin Golf app displays GPS distances with the pairing of the Approach Z30 which is not offered for any other products due to the Z30 being laser only, without a GPS receiver.

  • I had the same issue, contacted Garmin and they're sending me a new unit. Having said that, lots of people having the same issue. I have three or four friends that bought the units because it syncs with the watch which is a great feature. We all have the epic 2.  I think the build quality is really bad and the laser just stops working after a while. I've actually had some guys throwing inaccurate distance as well

  • Original poster here.   Spring is getting  closer.  Unfortunately I was  sad to  see  others having the exact same issues.  Any updates on this issue.  My experience with  being  an early garmin adopter is they  usually  figure it out  and  fix  the issues.
