Try connecting your watch to a USB wall outlet AC adapter source while attempting to install the map updates via WiFi through the map manager menu on your S70. Make sure to not use a computer USB power source, or other USB source that accesses storage...as this will put your watch into MTP mode, which locks the display into USB mode and does not allow menu or WiFi connection with that type of connection.

If you continue to have concerns, I recommend connecting the watch to your home computer, and install the updates via Garmin Express. Then once the maps are up to date, see if the concerns with the map syncing continue by checking for updates in the map manager.
