S70 Weather data is really off, and it's been couple month.

Weather data is completely off than all other official weather data. It started to happen after I got the 14.3x update as there wasn't any issue at all before that. I live in Vancouver and the weather currently showing 11 degree with highest 7 and lowest 6. It's been like that for couple month already where the current temperature is way over than the 'Highest' of today. It been like this every day. This is not the only issue, I tested the other day where current weather is 20 with lowest of 13 and highest of 20, but garmin shows current is 17 with lowest 7 and highest 13. Please look into this issue since it has been couple month already. I've been updating my location, update GPS, update my watch and is currently 14.69 and the issue is still not fixed.

  • The current temperature is still higher than the "highest" and the high/low is around 5 degree off all other weather app/website

  • I have this same problem.  Show's 55 right now and it's below 30 out.  I've tried shutting the watch off and phone to resync and that didn't work.  Tried resyncing to the apps and that didn't work.  At a loss.  For a $700 smart watch I'd expect it to be much smarter at this.   Please help on this thread so i can see what the fix is.

  • Refer to the Garmin support articles linked below for concerns with the weather features on the Approach S70:

The articles linked above have specific steps outlined for both AndroidOS, and iPhone users.

  • I have tried every method before this post. It's not working that's why I post it here.

  • I got the below information and have tried twice now and nothing is working.  I even followed the link and tried to star an activity.  The watch and the Garmin Golf app are syncing up fine.  I just can't trust the distance date as it's 10 degree's higher in tempature which means it's getting a different locations data.  I checked the weather tag on the watch and updated location too and that was correct.  It's like it's stuck on the high temp yesterday and won't release or update.

The following factors should be considered if you are not seeing the weather update correctly on your Approach S70:

    • Ensure you are opening the Garmin Golf app vs the Garmin Connect mobile app to sync the watch.
    • Check and make sure the proper permissions are allowed in your smartphone settings app, to allow the Garmin Golf app to send correct weather info to the watch.
    • For Android, the location permission for Garmin Golf in the Apps menu of settings should checked, or adjusted to "Allow All of the time".
    • If "Allow all the time" or "Allow only while using the app" is not an available option, toggle Location OnFor optimal results, enable Precise Location if available.

      1. Power your phone off and back on.

      2. Power your Garmin device off and back on.

      3. Open the Garmin Golf app.

      4. Allow your device to sync.

    • For Android, if using "Allow only while using the app" permission, the Garmin Golf app must be open and showing on the phone for the weather data to update on your device.

The Garmin Support articles for weather feature related concerns with the Approach S70 are linked below:

  • Once you have adjusted permissions for the Garmin Golf app through your Android Settings app...specifically after enabling the "Allow All of the Time" option...and have confirmed "Precise Location" is enabled....you would need to power off the watch, and power off your smartphone > Then power both back on, and open the Garmin Golf app on your phone > Tap the 3 horizontal bars menu in the upper left side of the home screen > Select Garmin Devices > Then tap the circular arrows icon to the right of your watch name in the devices menu to complete a sync.

It is also important to note what specific weather feature, and section you are viewing the info from on the watch. If you are viewing weather from a 3rd party watch face installed from the iQ Store, the developer of that content specifies how that information is updated, and the weather info is not derived and proved in the same way the default weather widget provides the information. If you swipe down from the time screen showing the watch face, scroll down the widget glance list to the default weather widget to ensure you are viewing weather from that source.

Ultimately if you continue to have the concerns with Garmin developed default weather features on the watch, it would be best to contact Garmin Support to discuss the issue with a live expert so they can walkthrough the issue, and proactively guide you through troubleshooting.

  • Tried switching the watch to a standard face.  Unfortunately no change and the weather is still completely wrong.  I'll contact Garmin directly and work on it from there.  Appreciate your help Cody.

  • Any update on this? It's 5 months old,

I got my watch yesterday and it seems this is still an issue having worked through all the steps provided by Cody. Weather is reporting as 13 deg with high/low of 6/9 degrees - doesn't make sense. Everything is paired, have tried power cycling and starting an GPS activity... same result. Watch was updated using Garmin Express and so is up to date, as are the apps.

  • Reports of concerns regarding weather inconsistencies or weather not displaying on the device is typically an issue related to a disconnect between permissions, settings, with the troubleshooting steps outlined above resolving the concern for user's.

If the weather is not displaying correctly on your device, confirm the recommended permissions essential for the Garmin Golf app also match the permissions for the Garmin Connect mobile app. Ensure that the Connect app is not relied on as an indicator of sync between the watch and smartphone.

The Approach S70 is synced primarily through the Garmin Golf app, so ensuring the Garmin Golf app is running in the background and regularly opened to sync the watch is necessary...along with permissions for location and precise location being enabled for both the Garmin Golf and Connect mobile apps.

Prior to assuming the issue is Garmin-related, it's best to contact Garmin Support to discuss the issue so further info on your specific issue.
