Wind Data Not Working

I just got the s70 & coming from the s62. I'm having issues with the wind direction not working within playing golf. I've uninstalled the app & allowing all permissions. I try to open & start round through the garmin golf app & it still doesn't sync it all up to work properly. Any suggestions?  Thanks

  • Throughout the round of golf, make sure to leave the Garmin Golf app open and running in the background, with the S70 and your phone within bluetooth range of one another. 

    When at the golf course, just before starting the round on the S70, open the Garmin Golf app on your smartphone > Open main menu > Select Garmin Devices > Tap the sync button next to your device > Then start the round on the watch to load satellites > Throughout the round of golf, make sure to leave the Garmin Golf app open and running in the background, with the S70 and your phone within bluetooth range of one another. 

    Verify phone settings are not enabled that would stop the Garmin Golf app from running when phone is locked and paired throughout the round. (Low power mode, battery saving features, optimization for running apps, etc.). 

  • Must say I'm having exactly the same issue. I've also come from the S62 & Fenix 6. It is frustrating that every Garmin product I've every bought, there's been a lot, has a lot of bugs when first released. Always feel like beta test, would be nice if it just worked as advertised for a change.

  • FIXED - REPORTING MY FINDING

    [You do not need to be on a course to test. You can test at home, skip the GPS and select a course manually]

    FIX:
    I had to uninstall and reinstall Garmin Golf on my phone to make it work, agree with all permissions and "Voila"
    After opening the app on the phone and starting the round on my watch, major difference is that I have now on my phone a small icon/notification indicated "You are still playing".

    FINDINGS:
    - Using Power Saving mode on my S10+ doesn't seem to affect the connection.

    - I can close the app on the phone: as long as the small notification icon is present on the phone, the watch and teh app are still connected.

    - When scrolling the distance up or down on the wtach, I have 2 more screen's information: HDCP rating / Stroke & Wind direction/speed.

    - starting the round on the watch automatically start the round on the phone. A "Live scoring in on, Check the Garmin Golf app for your latest standing" nag screen appears.

    - exiting the round on the watch automatically exit the round on the phone.

    - starting the golf round on the watch will automatically connect with the Garmin app on the phone (can see the icon on the phone but will not launch the app). You still have access to all information above.

    - starting the round on the phone will send a notification to the watch but does not start the round on the watch. So I guess round need to be started from the watch,

    Fixed for me, I'm happy and I hope this reports will helps others.

    I did have it working via another mobile but that was because it was a fresh install on that phone.

    I uninstalled the Garmin Golf App and reinstalled it as you suggested.

    Yes, it now works on my main mobile. Thanks for the tip.

  • I’m having issues with the s70 picking up the wind, this can be solved by opening the App but I don’t always have my phone next to me as I’ll be away from my bag/cart so not always at hand. It also doesn’t let me flick through screens on some occasions and just gives me yardages but I can’t even look for the plays like or elevation etc, it fixes itself once I move around, usually by the next hole but not always. 

  • Thank you. I would have never figured out why this was not working because I already gave it all permissions. Reinstalling worked.

  • Still not working for me. I have did the uninstall/install off the app. I just don't get why I have to be tethered to the phone for the wind data to work, and when I am connected to the phone it still doesn't work. I have a Samsung S22 Ultra with a Samsung Galaxy Watch Pro 5 with a $30/ year app that gives me subs data
