Wind Data Not Working

I just got the s70 & coming from the s62. I'm having issues with the wind direction not working within playing golf. I've uninstalled the app & allowing all permissions. I try to open & start round through the garmin golf app & it still doesn't sync it all up to work properly. Any suggestions?  Thanks

  • exact same problem, noticed it when looking at the plays like and also at the wind screen itself.  no wind data is shown.  verified the phone and watch are connected, near each other and checked permissions too.

  • Can now be obtained by uninstalling and installing garmin golf

  • I ended up getting it going. I have to open the garmin connect app & the garmin golf app on my phone & start the round. Face palm♂️ pretty complicated/stupid to get the data showing. I never used to have to do that. Pretty annoying since the weather widget is on the phone & knows my location because I'm actually golfing the course, to have to complex it all. Pretty lame how I leave my phone in the cart at all times too & half the time I'm on greens it's disconnected Bluetooth & all that. But w.e, it finally works if I do that all

  • I got it going. Have to use garmin connect app & garmin golf app to get it going for whatever reason. Smh

  • If you are experiencing an issue viewing wind data on your Approach device, please see the following FAQ for some helpful info:

Viewing Wind Information with the Approach S62

As a potential work-around to get wind data, please open the Garmin Golf App (GGA) and keep it open during your round on your paired Android phone.

I will be reaching out to those on this post through direct message to gather some additional info, thank you!

  • My connectivity isses for wind & direction were Bluetooth related.

I discovered today that my OPPO 94 5G (Android 13) bluetooth was causing my Bluetooth issues.

I found my old Blackview BV9100 (Android 9) and the connection to it gave me everything, including full plays like, wind speed & direction and Virtual Caddie.

Check your Blutooth connection to your mobile. It could be your mobile Bluetooth is not as good as you thought it was.

My Garmin Approach S70 47mm performs as advertised and is a joy to use.

I hope this helps everyone still having issues with Wind/Direction..

p.s. There was another update this morning (12th July 2023) but this had no bearing on the above.

Everything fell in to place once you Unistall the Garmin Golf App and then Reinstall it.

Make sure you have the App running and in Sync with your watch before Running the Watch Golf App.

    (1) I run the Gamin Golf App once I reach the Golf Club Car Park.

    (2) Confirm I have bluetooth connected then on the 1st Tee I run the Watch Golf App and not had an issue since.

I have played over 30 times and on numerour golf courses. I HOPE THIS HELPS SOME.

  • Good to hear you were able to get the features working on another mobile device. This is a perfect example of how the reason for a concern arising is not always straightforward, and there are a lot of factors to consider from both the smartphone, and the watch when it comes to smart connected features working consistently.

  • come on man.... as someone who has/had 0 issues with the same phone and the r10/z82/s62 for YEARS, literally YEARS, I made the upgrade to the s70 expecting the same level of stability and lack of issues I had with the s62 other than the few known issues (list of clubs being out of order after the shot when the new clubs were added a few patches ago and the very unstable performance of the Garmin golf app on android and ios).

for the price of the s70 i'm finding it to be a mess and i'm continuing to lose confidence in Garmin and their products.  I will ask you again, because it appears we have to be the QA for another Garmin golf product, what can I do pre round and during the round to ensure I am giving back proper feedback to you and the Garmin team when I start to notice issues?

  • The case Bob.S-Y mentioned above is specific to their individual use case, and my response is simply acknowledging that it's important to consider both sides of the equation when troubleshooting, as two devices are required (watch & smartphone) for features to work.

This is true with any smartphone compatible with our devices, but especially with how configurable open systems are on Android, and the differences in capabilities...hardware...features offered between models. Phone configurations change frequently with updates to the OS, along with any user changes to settings, etc.

In terms of your earlier comment stating you are having the same issue, I have nothing specific to further go off, in determining what to suggest, other than the general response with info showing how the feature works, and what is needed to keep it working throughout the round overall.

Former Memberfeel free to reach out to me via direct message so I can confirm some info, and get additional information from you to help work towards restoring your confidence in using the S70.

  • I brought the S70 for the wind data and I'm not getting anything to work,  it keeps saying I'm not connected to the Garmin Golf app, please help.
