Larger Numbers needed for Hazards and Layups

Please, please, please can we have an update that shows larger numbers on the map for these. Or something on the main screen.  I can't see them on the course and nor can lots of others.

I love it other than that after coming from a Fenix 5 and then a Venu 2.

Please help us long sighted oldies...

  • Hi @all.

The EPIX has indeed bigger numbers for the hazard view:

But when you set a layup target you are back to the tiny numbers:

I do not see any improvement here. As you can see, there is plenty of room for bigger numbers.

  • I’ve just received the s70 for Christmas. The hazard font is way too small to read and given that it appears that Garmin don’t look like they’re interested in fixing it, the watch will be returned.

  • hi, from my experience with many Garmin golf watches the best is Epix 2 which is not dedicated golf watch.  I tested both older Epix2 and Epix 2 Pro 51mm. It may look like Epix pro 51mm is much bigger than Epix47mm but it is not the case.  Most of the 4mm difference is massive frame.  Epix 51mm with 26mm strap is watch for big man with big hands.  Functionally both are  the same.  I strongly recommend old good Epix2 (not pro) which you can now bu at very discounted price.  .  Besides large fonts for hazards it has additional benefit which is easy access to hazards just pressing one button.  Although it has touch screen it also works with buttons what for me is better option than S70 (only touch screen watch).

Sometimes I think people who create golf watches in Garmin company don't play golf at all. The fact you cannot edit club distances to obtain proper virtual caddy recommendation is absolutely stupid.  And what ?  They don't give this option.

  • I've had the S70 for over a year now ... previously I owned both the S60 and S62.  I love the look and feel of the S70, the battery life, and it's integration/alerts with my Galaxy S23 Ultra.  That being said, it desperately needs an upgrade to the hazard and layups.  Larger numbers would be such a welcome improvement.  I had cataract surgery years ago and don't use my reading glasses while golfing.  Trying to hone in on the hazards and layups is so difficult.  I would be much better served with a more basic device that has larger/more visible display (fonts) in this area.  I don't remember have such a challenge with the prior S62.  The S70 definitely is a step back for my needs.  Help Garmin, please!

  • Please GARMIN, every few years I upgrade to your BEST watch, but this issue has kept me from recommending this watch to the many friends, colleagues, and others that I chat with looking for the "best of the best" in golf technology.  I'm going to have to ditch this watch if GARMIN is unable to implement a solution.  I solely need the best/most visible display -> focusing on hazards and their front/back yardage. While golfing yesterday, I got so frustrated, hence trying to bring this thread back to life.  I really don't want to be fiddling with my phone (and the Garmin Golf app) to easily see this info.  If I have to do that, I'll just go another direction with future purchases.

  • I sent mine back for this very reason. I got the epix gen 2 which allows you to press a button and snap to the hazards with large numbers. It does virtually everything that the S70 and has just as good battery.  It’s £200 cheaper too. The only down side is that it’s a little bulkier.  The S70 issue is frustrating because it’s so unnecessary. If they made the hazard numbers twice as big not one person would complain. Nobody would even notice apart from those of us that currently can’t read the tiny numbers.

  • Obviously it is very easy to implement bigger numbers. Garmin already works on this issue.  Soon we will see S72  Slight smile. They want us to buy new watches not improve old models.

  • Thanks all for the responses. I tried to see what Garmin Support Chat would say this morning and got this response: "We have no information or issues with folks returning the watch because of the S70 no big numbers. If we did, we would be having thousands of customers contacting us a day, but that is not the case. That post is not new as it was two years old. The S70 is a different model that is not going to be the same layout as the S62 or previous generation units ... When Big Number is activated, it takes up the whole screen that will disable the hole information like hazards and the layout of the course by design. This occurred as well back on the S62. However, layouts look a little different because this is a newer generation device." (Ryan, Support Chat Rep)

  • The new S44 and S50 have gone back to the functionality we want.  I'm losing my mind here, lol. I love the premium look and feel of the S70, but gotta have the larger bunker numbers. I guess I need to do a deep dive to see how the EPIX (Pro) compares. Meaning, how do I get a watch with the S70's premium large display, but with the golf functionality that I'm looking for. If I go to the EPIX, is there golf functionality I will lose? For my situation, I have little interest in arcos, etc.  I just want a premium look and feel ... good integration with Android (S70 does a fine job) ... and allow my eyes to quickly snap to hazards and see the front/back distance with a larger font. Thanks again all for the great responses.
